Another daily visitor to our back yard is the Blue Faced Honeyeater. There guys get chased off by all the other birds and as a result are very skittish and are very hard to get close to and photograph. They are eating a honey/bran mix that I make up and which they have to share with the rainbow lorikeets.
With such intense eyes, I'm surprised this bird is at the bottom of the pecking order. He looks like he could be intimidating. Beautiful birds, none the less. You've managed a great shot of them.
Clamped feeding dish ... I have to assume someone or thing would tip it over otherwise?? Perhaps a wayward bird would use a boomerang?! In northern Minnesota my problem are pesky squirrels.
@richardhoeg Its your friends - Crows. They used to come in, pick up the dish, drop it over the edge of the table and then take off. Didn't eat anything - just got rid of it. . ha Ha Ha Hope everything is going OK with your Dad.
@landownunder@hermann@tracelee@isee@richardhoeg@digitalrn@radiogirl@gilbertwood Thank you everyone. I'll try for a flight shot some time so we can get a look under their wings. @lyndemc Thank you Lyndemc. Every now and then when they are obviously a bit hungry, they will pluck up the courage and gang up on ONE rainbow lorikeet but that is about the only time I have seen them exert any authority. @ubobohobo Thanks Margaret. What's Grenville?
Thanks for having a peek at my macro apple.
