Ring Tail Possum With Joey by terryliv

Ring Tail Possum With Joey

Whenever any strange wildlife (cat, snake or in this case a ring tail possum) enters the back yard, the birds soon alert you to it and this afternoon, the mickey birds, honey eaters and butcher birds were all kicking up a huge fuss. The ring tail is nocturnal but something had caused it to leave the nest which set the birds off. It was obviously a female carrying a largish baby in its pouch and it was constantly stopping to lick the entrance to the pouch. See other pic at http://365project.org/terryliv/directors-cut

Great composition...............we don't have these animals in Canada!
They look very cute............like how the tail wraps around the branch.

What an amazing coat this Possum has! Our little USA 'possums would be very jealous of the rich oranges and browns your AUS species ours. Ours look ever in need of a bath as their white-ish hair is never quite white but mostly grungy gray. Wonderful photo, as is the one in the extra album that shows the full pouch.

As always, thanks for stopping by to see more of my macro shots. It wouldn't be nearly as fun to post these pictures is someone didn't come by and have a look.

Our "American" opossums are marsupials, and about the homeliest ones out there. Funny little animals though. So tough, all bluff.

What a great shot. You are so lucky to have what you do in your backyard. I could really get used to that.
