Day 27: Fairbanks Alaska
Today we were supposed to fly up to Coldfoot, a very small settlement that lies above the Arctic Circle. We were all down in the foyer bright and early when a rep from the "airline" arrived to inform us that they had cancelled the flight. Their excuse was the weather but we know that other groups went that day so we reckon they had stuffed up the bookings and didn't have enough planes. For us, it was going to be the highlight of the tour. BUGGAR!!!!!!!!!!!!
So we were left to spend the day in Fairbanks which is not a lot of fun.
A small consolation pic then of the chef doing dessert at the farewell dinner that night.
Ah, too bad. I'm planning to ride the motorcycle up that way soon. The road from Fairbanks to Coldfoot, the "Dalton" is a well known adventurous highway. Don't feel too slighted - it's a 50-50 chance of getting to Coldfoot by highway too.
@kevinkrueger We never went through Quesnel Kevin. We were on the Rocky Mountaineer from Vancouver to Kamloops and then Jasper and then bus from Jasper to Banff and then Whistler and Vancouver. Bit disappointed when I realised we would miss your town.
What a disappointment. There are certain highlights you look forward to when you are on a vacation. You do have the consolation of the fire photo and hopefully a great dessert.
Talk about timing with the shutter button; you nailed it just right! Bummer about the missed opportunity. I would've liked to have seen pics from that adventure.
