One of last season's immature butcher birds having a sun bake on the kitchen window sill this morning.
They are so funny when they sunbake. The feathers fluff up, the beak opens, the eyes glaze over and the almost seem to go into a trance.
At first I thought this was a society finch; the beak style and feather markings are very much the same. A society finch tho would barely come to this fellow's 'knees'. What a precious image of this trusting soul warming himself on your window ledge. LOL on the glazed-over eyes as the sun bakes his back.
Love the names of your Australian birds - and hadn't heard the term "sunbake" before - perfect for what he's doing. Such a cute shot they way you caught him.
@milaniet He's called a Burcher Bird for a number of reasons Milanie. The adult bird is black and white; He has a hook on the end of his beak like a butcher's hook; and most relevantly, because he hangs his kills (meat) in the forks of trees etc. They are also Australia's best songster with a brilliantly pure and crisp song.
