Back in August I posted a couple of pics (I don't say shots any more) of the mother brushtail possum and her joey.
Well the joey is all grown up now and almost as big as its mother.
If you are wondering about the watermelon and paw paw (papya) scraps - for years we have fought with the brushtails trying to stop them eating our parsley, basil, chillis etc without success as they always found a way to get a feed. Then we had the bright idea of stuffing them with other more desirable food so they would lose interest in our herbs. So now we put out all our fruit scraps for them and most nights, they have a wonderful banquet. And the herbs are now left alone to thrive in peace.
(Tonight I have invoked Rule 37, Section A, sub-section III which states that any photos taken last night after I have posted my daily pics is eligible for inclusion in todays posting.)
Well, that is a good rule. I posted one from three days ago so not sure what rule that is other then I worked all day and had no energy. Is there a rule for that?
Beautiful shot of them Poppo, they are so cute. Our resident and her baby has been eating the mangoes off our tree, we only had a half dozen or so but I decided I didn't mind because they don't waste a thing. They pull it down one night and then continue to eat it each night until there is nothing left on the seed at all.
Cute photo and a lovely story to go with it too. It doesn't matter if the photo was taken yesterday or last year, this is your 365 you can put in it whatever you want to.
Great shot, that Joey sure has grown. And great diversion tactics to preserve the herbs too.
And my sub clause is that as long as the shot was taken that month it's fair game to post.
I was just thinking about your darling Australian marsupials and wondering how the little family was doing. And why was I thinking about them? Because an opossum has set up house under a back porch addition of my house. I wouldn't have been aware of his presence if the dogs hadn't scared him to death. I got to see the whole 'play dead' thing for a couple of seconds before having to herd my pack of crazy pooches back into the house, something that was no easy feat, I assure you. Did I take a picture? No. 'Possum was likely back under the porch by the time I returned. I've started leaving treats outside his run path so maybe I'll get a glimpse of him one of these days. I warn you tho, he's ugly.
Another fab capture and I love the story too. I am glad you have found a way to feed them and keep them away from your herbs. They just look so cute!! Fav!
Haha, love your rules. Mine just say 'if I took it, I can use it. Don't look at the date'! I was wondering how to save our herbs. They are in the middle of a pond now. Hoping that works!
@joansmor My rule when that happens is that I take a photo of my toenails and post that. Unfortunately, the minor issue of ego comes into play so it will never happen. :-)
POPPO! You're as brilliant as I am!!! ; ) This 100% my philosophy! Everyone chides me about feeding our raccoons, saying they'll dig up the garden if they come to the yard! Well, duh...they're *hungry* and looking for food! I feed all the critters who come through, and they allow me photos most of the time! And most of the time they leave our yard, satisfied, we've used up the scraps (and some cat food) and all's copacetic in The Peaceable Kingdom! Good on you for understanding the concept, too!
(I don't know how it was I just came across your photo, but clearly had something to say about it! So glad to see Ron had a nice time in your company. He's nearly a neighbour of mine in California!)
