Feeling "blah!!" today and just before 5, realised I hadn't taken a shot all day. Thankfully, our Top Knot Pigeons rescued me. They never let me get too close but they must have felt sorry for me and they came up pretty close.
I have always loved these pigeons and have always called them top knots. But after Googling them to try to identify differences between the sexes, it would seem as if Crested Pigeon is the more common name for them. So Crested Pigeon it is.
Apart from their beautiful iridescent colourings, one of the best things about them is that when they take off, their wings make a very distinctive whistling sound.

Fabulous detail, he is really strutting his stuff. They are always at the bottom of the pecking order in our garden. Everything else seems to have a go at them, but we have got one crested pigeon from hell and he really fights back with his wings. One had a go at a rainbow lorikeet the other day and won.
Great shot Terry.They had been missing from here in their normal numbers but have started to increase again now.According to the bushies they are good eating too.
