@ubobohobo Hi Margaret, I have just spent the last couple of hours trying to find an excellent set of instructions by Alexis Birkhill on star photography and I can't find it anywhere. he may have taken it down. It was what I was using for my night shots but threw them out on the basis that I would be able to print it out again if I needed it :-(
Anyway, basically
Set the focus on infinity
Aim the camera (on a tripod) at the south pole ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celestial_pole )
Set ISO at about 200
Set aperture at about 5.6
Shoot for about 30 minutes.
@ubobohobo I should have also added that you need a dark sky (no moon, no city lights) and low humidity. Some altitude would also help. I would think that your place would be perfect.
@terryliv thanks for taking the time to share. I've always wondered how to do it. Now don't hold your breath. The skies are perfect here and I will have a go...soon. And I loved your capture of a shooting star. How lucky are you?
Stunning Fav.
