A World of Hurt

Rhoda came within a whisker of having an altercation with this paper wasp nest while doing some pruning this afternoon. Spotted it just in time before she grabbed hold of the branch the nest was attached to.

For anyone who has not been stung by a paper wasp, I can vouch for the fact that it is not a pleasant experience. It is like being hit with a sledge hammer. And almost always, you end up with multiple stings.

A lot of pain when you see them all at work...

Great capture but I don't think I would get that close without using 500ml zoom!!!

Oh wow, get out the Mortein. David was stung twice by paper wasps recently. A few rude words ensued before the wasps went to meet their maker.

He was in agony for the rest of the day and night.

Great capture and detail. As horrid as wasps are you can't help but admire the beauty of their nests. At a distance that is. Lucky Rhoda escaped getting stung.
