About 150kms south of Mt Isa is the very small town of Dajarra. The population of the town is around 150 while the district, a few thousand sq kms has about 450.
It's hard to believe that Dajarra was once the largest cattle trucking depot in the world. Large herds of cattle were brought to the rail head here from as far away as Western Australia and loaded onto trains bound for the markets in the east.
The advent of the large road trains spelt the death of rail transport and rendered this facility obsolete. Today Dajarra is just a sleepy little town in the middle of nowhere.
However, true to form, it is very neat and tidy and it was a pleasure to stop here for morning tea.
