It's Not the Trevi Fountain But . . . .

Day 24 - Cunnamulla, SWQ

. . but not bad for a small western Queensland town of only 1200 people - and not a piece of graffiti in sight.

The fountain was built in 1924 as a memorial to the soldiers of the district who lost their lives in The Great War

It gleaming. An extraordinary fountain for a small town.

I imagine the story behind it is quite interesting.

Lovely, and yes....very clean. I wish it could be so around where we live. So much graffiti everywhere!

Surprisingly clean, had expected stains from mineral rich water. Great light and capture.

That is very clean considering how old it is.

I would never have guessed Cunnamulla would have a fountain like that...how odd.

I had forgotten about this fountain as I have seen it before. It is exactly the same as the fountain in Cameron Park, Wellington, NSW. I was the Parks & Reserves manager for Wellington Shire for 27 years and was made aware of the Cunnamulla fountain through historical research. I visited this fountain in 2010 long after my retirement in 2005.

I feel a bit mean saying it looks a tad out of place, wonderful to see that the memorial is respected.
