Aboriginal Rock Paintings

Day 18 - Anbangbang (previously Nourlangie), Kakadu NP

The information board accompanying these aboriginal rock paintings said that the paintings in this gallery were more recent examples of local indigenous rock art and were probably less than 1000 years old.

Many Australians would be familiar with Nourlangie Rock in Kakadu NP. Apparently when Europeans gave it that name, they incorrectly used the name of a different nearby location and the local indigenous people have now asked that we use the correct name for the lower part of the rock viz Anbangbang.

The upper part of the rock is now known as Burrunggui.
