Another entry in my first attempt at a theme week. A couple of Melaleucas growing along side the King Edward River on the Mitchell Plateau in the Kimberley, Western Australia. Taken during our trip to the Kimberley last year.

From what I can see it looks like a Melaleuca! / teatree! WA has lots of very different species to here and for an ID I need to know leaf size, arrangement and shape, but more importantly, flower arrangement, size etc..... Looking at flora of the region, prominent flora includes grey box, wollybutt, bloodwood, and stringy bark .... maybe look up some of those and compare to what you remember of the trees appearance.
They do look like paperbarks from the pic. Plant ID can be very tricky ... I used to be in awe of the old foresters who could ID a rainforest tree seedling based on nothing more than its cotyledons!
Sorry - they are the "seed leaves" and usually very different to the juvenile or adult leaves. Very hard to identify anything by them, so you can understand how amazing these old guys were!
I always find it interesting to note the differences in tones, shades and colours when comparing the reflected image to the item being reflected. I learned that the stuff in the water does that. That's about as scientific as I can get. This one has all kinds of interesting things to keep me busy.
