1. This sign for the Birdsville Bakery appears every couple of Ks on all roads leading into Birdsville. The bakery and its pies are brilliant.
2. The sign for the Diamantina shire puts things into perspective. In an area that is twice the size of Belgium, there are just 283 residents or one person for every 335 sq kms. There are three gazetted towns in the Diamantina Shire, Birdsville (population 115), the administrative centre Bedouri (population 140) and Betoota (population 0 - the last remaining resident passed away in 2007) The remainder of the population are spread though-out the shires remote cattle stations. Betoota is officially the smallest gazetted town in the world.
3. Yep we are on the Birdsville Track WooHoo!!!!
4. Yes, Birdsville is a long way from anywhere.
