This quaint little church is near St Boswell, in the historic county of Roxburghshire, now the Scottish Borders area of Scotland.
I could not find a definite account of its history but it appears that a church has stood on this spot since the 12 century while this building probably dates from the 1600s.
While wandering around the area, we inadvertently ended up in the grounds of this big impressive building. When we stopped and asked a worker what it was we were told it was Mertoun House, the home of the Duke of Sutherland and that it was private property and we were not supposed to be there. He was good about it (stupid bloody Australians) so we left. We had many such incidents like this during our wanderings. Ha ha ha
@onewing Thanks Babs. That's the site I got the little bit of info from but it is very badly written and hard to get a definitive account of what happened when with the church
What a wonderful old church and what a great idea to photograph the churches that come up in your geneological research. We have been trying to photograph houses that were connected with our ancestors, the trouble is some of them have ended up under main roads and others just disappeared into the mists of time, especially the ones in London.
Yeah we know. On walk-about!! (Rite of passage during which Indigenous male Australians would undergo a journey during adolescence!!!!!) NOTE:- Adolescence!!?? Great shot.
