We had two nights at Red Cliffs Lodge about 25ks outside of Moab in Utah while we visited the surrounding national parks. The lodge is right on the Colorado River and is a bit of an attraction in its own right. I don't know where it gets its name from though.
It rained quite heavily on our way back into Moab after Dead Horse Point and the road to the lodge was cut for a few hours. The difference in the colour of the Colorado between the two days on the drive back to the lodge was quite dramatic. The run off from the red cliffs had turned the river a deep reddy brown. The word Colorado is of Spanish origin, meaning colored red. Easy to see why it was given this name.
