It was interesting taking this shot. I was on the corner of Washington St and Wells St and when the lights changed to green and the traffic had cleared, I would race out onto the middle of the road facing the oncoming cars that had just cleared the lights at the previous intersection and had about 3-4 seconds to set the shot up and take it and then race back to the footpath before I got run over.
I had five attempts, none of which came out the way I has hoping. This was the best of them though.
I kept expecting to get apprehended (or shot) by some over zealous police officer and certainly got some glares from the drivers in the leading cars as they went past. Bloody tourists.
We were to meet our son et al at about 5:30 pm at United Park, about 2.5kms west of the city and our plan was to take our time and walk there, having a good look around on the way.
However, it was bloody cold (for us Brisbaneites anyway) and the wind was freezing and roaring up Washington St into our faces so after persevering with our plan for a while, we went into a transit centre to warm up and get a cup of coffee.
Ended up there for a couple of hours watching the passing the parade before catching a cab to United Centre.
@terryliv Oh, I wish you had!! That would have been fun! And this was a classic scene to capture. BTW, Washington is one of the worst streets to walk as it is truly a wind tunnel -- just in case you need to know for your next visit!! (I know...not going to happen).
PS -- what would happen if you cropped in from the two sides to stop at the metal structures as the left/right framing tools, and have it be about the structure and cars coming at you?
Wonderful perspective, depth of field and detail Terry you did well to stand your ground, looks like a still straight out of the French Connection Film even though its Chicago not New York:)
Super capture.......my you can tell a story, so pleased you didn't get run over or shot !!!!!!!Hope those two little birds flew away quickly...I like the reflections of the car headlights too....
