On our recent visit to a small downtown I heard a train whistle and went running (to the delight of our granddaughter!). This one goes right through the middle of town. (There were actually two trains within 30 minutes of each other during the middle of the day!)
@thewatersphotos British trains tend to me of a more compact design and particularly in the post-steam era, they are far rounder and smaller than the big chunky square shaped American trains. US engines were originally imports from the UK, but the design changed because the territory was so different. Bridges and tunnels are much bigger in the States. You wouldn't get a granddaddy of the US rail through most of the English tunnels or under our ancient low bridges. We love all trains in our house, wherever they are from!
