Before our morning shift as volunteers at the Military Aviation Museum, the Missus and I were driving around the nearby Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. We saw this Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) sitting atop an abandoned piling in the Ashville Bridge Creek. It was cold outside (not too much above freezing) and the heron does not look like it appreciates it one bit.
This may well be the same heron I photographed on January 13th. It is definitely the same piling (the tide was in when I took the previous shot so there's more lumber showing here). Perhaps it had been nailed there (h/t Monty Python's Dead Parrot sketch).
