It was good to get out and about for a couple of hours this afternoon even though it was rainy and grey, but when I got home I was not overly happy with anything I shot. Sometimes it is like that (I am sure many of you can understand) I don't get to down about it, I always put it down to a learning experience. This is in my normal contrasty style, but it took a bit of tinkering to get there. Hope everyone has had a great weekend and will catch up with you all in the week!
I know that feeling too well. I take a heap of photos and when when I get home, either I don't like them or they don't jump out at me and say 'yes'!
I like the patterns in the electric lights here and the girl's expression.
I love that your capture makes it looks like she's in her own happy little world under the umbrella - the spotlight is absolutely on her. And the lines of the lights are great too. The street photography workshop leader I met last week said he might spend a day out and about and would be happy with two 'keepers' at the end of it ...
PS Andie, take a look at the contact print of one of the world's most famous photos, Moonrise, Herbadez by Ansel Adams. It looks so unpromising, but darkroom magic transformed it into something very special: http://www.kevinshick.com/blog/2013/4/revisiting-hernandez-nm
It looks beautiful under that ceiling! Love how she is walking and is the centre of attention. I know the feeling of shots not turning out the way you hoped. That usually leeds to etsooing ;)
Sometimes you shoot and shoot and nothing gels until later, glad you didn't give up on this one. I love the movement and "just everyday life" quality to this.
@yrhenwr Thanks for that David, found it quite fascinating! Sometimes I get caught up in if it is street you should not mess with it too much, but it was flat and uninteresting sooc (apart from her smile).
