More street portraits from the Pride Parade. I learned as much from watching Giulio work as I did from the help he gave me. I am definitely too timid at times, not that he was aggressive, quite the contrary, but it was the quickness with how he worked and moving around to get better composition, where as I tended to stay in one spot get a shot and say thanks and that was it.
It was fun to do street portraits, but think i will always prefer my candid work. Love hunting for light and stories on the street!
@jgpittenger i totally agree about the lop on her legs. I normally do all my street work with my fuji X70 that has a full frame equivalent of 28mm. The lens I used on my Xt2 is a 35 mm (about a 50mm equivalent full frame lens)a much tighter view than I am used to. I bought the 35mm (50mm full frame equivalent) because it gave me weather proofed kit. I now think I will sell my 35mm and buy the 23 mm (35mm full frame equivalent) a more comfortable lens for my style of shooting. It is all a learning experience!
Nicely done. Yes, it's great to take as many angles/compositions as they have patience for, that's for sure. Have to admit I had not heard of Giulio and looked him up. This was a street workshop? Interesting as his portfolio didn't shout street to me, he really seems to favor low angles in his street portraiture which is interesting.
@dbj_365 It was not actually a street work shop. To cut a long story short, I got a couple of free photowalks included in my admission to the Out of Chicago Summer conference. As I signed up late, the walks with Valerie Jardin, Marie laigneau, and James Maher were already full.
Like you I was not familiar with Giullios work and I chose his walk because it was half way towards where I live. The Pride Parade was not the original destination, but for a reason unknown to us the five other people who should have been on the walk never turned up...so it was me, his designated assistant, and two other pro photographers. Someone suggested the Pride Parade, he said it was up to me, I said sure. I was taken by his attention to detail to make sure I was enjoying myself and learning, even though I told him I had not paid for the walk. He could have networked with the other professional photographers but he made sure it was all about me. I was struck by how quickly he worked a street portrait scene, and garnered some great tips from him. That said candid will always be my preference!
I took one other photowalk that weekend and I have to say if I had paid for it I would have been disappointed, that is why I appreciated his help and attention!
