Finn has been with us for a month now, and is well and truly settled in. We are still working on a few things, mainly his negative reaction to the hoover, at first it was just the noise now he tenses up as soon as he sees it. So this week I am working on desensitizing him to it. Hoping it will only take a week, but expecting it to take a little longer. He is quite food motivated so that makes it easier. The other issue we have been working on is his reaction to bigger dogs. He is perfect with small dogs and has already made a few doggy friends, but he barks and lunges at big dogs. He is not vicious, but I think it is more out of fear than wanting to go and say hello. He is getting better, but I know this one will take a little longer.
What a beautiful peaceful image! You are doing so well with your training.i have the same problem with Finlay and certain breeds of large dog- alsations and huskies for example. He barks his head off as soon as he sees one in the distance. I quickly put him back on the lead if I see that king of dog and try to walk a different way. I know it's because he is afraid as that's the only time he barks at another dog. It's a kind of protective action.
Good luck desensitising him. We have never managed it with our rescue dog. She has made some progress: she no longer cowers if you simply raise your arm ! The hoover is several steps too far for her even now.
