@taffy and I braved the cold this morning to watch the greening of the Chicago River for St. Patrick's Day. Whilst not my favorite shot I wanted to be able to show just how bright green the river becomes.
The 40 pounds of environmentally friendly dye that is used to turn the water green, starts out as an orange powder. The tradition started in 1961 when local city plumbers noticed that their white overalls were turned green when they used Flourescien (a product now banned, but was used to find pollution spills in the river), but from there the tradition started.
1961 a good year, just like celebrating St Patrick. What can I say born in 61 and Irish. I don't know if you noticed but the Irish rugby team bet England at Twickenham today, not rubbing your nose in it Ukandie, but I remember you were at our win over the All Blacks.
@jack4john I recorded the game, and watched it when I got home. I am now drowning my sorrows in a nice drop of Irish Whisky! Hey, the better team won today...England has some things to work on.
Haha -- sad to read your team lost, Andie. But Chicago's celebrating Loyola's surprise win in basketball. AND, we had a great morning! I love your 'big picture' scene. Just linked from my photo to yours.
