Pentax owners
You’re the sort of person who would buy a $1500 DSLR body so your stash of thread-mount, K-mount and M-mount lenses from decades ago (collectively worth $75.00 at a flea market or yard sale) won’t go to waste; either that, or you’ve never heard of a Spotmatic, Pentax LX or Takumar, you just think you look cool sporting a day-glo red camera that takes real pictures. You think people are laughing with you, not at you.
Canon owners
You appreciate the benefits of owning a camera system that leads in cutting-edge digital imaging technology and that offers a wealth of body, lens, and accessory options for every level of photographer, from lowly consumer to top professional. You will switch to Nikon.
LOL this is SOOO wrong! I will never switch to Nikon.
@sdpace I am not Jason - but I declare your assessment to be so. ;)
And what does THIS say about my Leica lust?? "You are either stinking rich, living in your mother’s basement, or one lens purchase away from a divorce."
Let them laugh, and let the results speak for themselves. I do not share the view that the most expensive camera or lens is necessarily better than, or in many cases even as good as the megabuck status symbol gadgets, but have always bought the least expensive equipment capable of producing the results I like.
got a Canon 'cause a good friend of mine who's an amazing photographer uses a Nikon and said he wishes he bought a Canon after all. he advised me to go with Canon. wish i could afford both to compare on my own... but ain't complaining. it's my first "real" camera bought with my own money. i do love it lots.
@grecican Yep, dude, we use what works for us and what we love. I judge no camera choices. I am Team Nikon all the way, but I am not prejudiced against those of you on the Dark Side. ;)
@beautifulthing ... Yes, that's clear enough, and why shouldn't we all have a laugh, whether with or at other people's priorities ... as long as we are prepared to say to those who take it seriously (as some do!) "Come and look, and please give me the benefit of your honest opinion"? I must add that I have not used my Leica for many years because I no longer have a darkroom, but keep it as a much loved souvenir, and have got rid of my film-consuming Nikons and the Mamiya 645, so I don't know what kind of jerk that makes me, Oh, and I am currently using Pentax screw lenses on my Canons (he says, hiding his face in shame!).
@wordpixman Pentax screw lenses on your Canons?? i didn't realize this was possible! i have my dad's old Pentax. i wonder if that would work... hory clap!
@beautifulthing "Sweet baby cheeses, I still want that camera sofa king bad"
I feel like i wanna pay you to write those gold nuggets on my FB page, so people will think I hang with the kool kids! Seriously!! can you like friend me, and then like all my pics and cool vids that I post and then tell all your friends to like my page or you will break up with them, cause it's the new year and I wanna all like a virgin newbie again!
As for me, I bought a Nikon D3100 because it's the smallest, most lightweight DSLR on the market with a flat shutter button so I can use it upside down. No matter how crap the Nikkor kit lenses are, I couldn't go canon even if I WANTED to, so Nikon has me forever I guess!
I have no friends!!!!
Olympus owners
You’re the sort of person who buys North Korean beer, Peruvian underwear, and French computers, not because you actually like them but because no one else does. When people question your choice of camera system you respond that Olympus images have a certain “soul” and that photographs are what matter, not the camera. You have no friends.
Before I even read it, I'll know my choice of cameras says I am a cheap skate when it comes to spending money on myself and have a tendency to lose and drop cameras! LOL!
I have a Panasonic
Panasonic, Fuji, Samsung, Minolta, Yashica owners and et cetera should be relieved rather than offended that they were not included. Comments are welcome as long as they are civil. Extra points will be given for self-deprecation.
Paula you are not alone, and Peruvian beer is pretty good as I remember but the underwear.... I must be really a friendless mystical tragic with penchant for lenses: two Olympus (DSLR & PEN), one Pentax (analogue SLR), three Sony video cams (from video 8), and a Canon A10 powershot.
I am reluctant to buy Canon again because parent company is involved in logging of rainforest timber.
er, lumix point to the shooting for me..that all we got tis mighty fine cos it sits in my pocket and is unobtrusive and i can pretend to be a photoman or a idiot messing about.. my camoflage of choice.
@beautifulthing mostly true, my pentax isn't dayglo red and I'm more likely to think people are laughing at me than with me but the rest is pretty accurate.
LOL,
My belief if pentax was good enough for the generations if family before me, it;s good enough for me, anyway, I hate being 'fashionable', it's so common.
I will certainly NOT ever switch to Nikon, tho. I was once on a photography adventure with a friend who shoots Nikon. That experience made me love my girl Canon oh so much more.
@beautifulthing@asrai lol, I think I'm going to need to see some photos as proof, though I'm easily swayed when it comes to mythical creatures...that's why I'm a Sony owner. ;-)
@bobfoto@peterdegraaff I am typing this from my fancy Oh La La French Computer. Peter, thinking of replacing my bridge Canon with the Pen system. Any thoughts on which model is best?
@brumbe@peterdegraaff
Since Sony owners always believe in what Sony tells them, are they also Mac owners too? Or am I opening another huge can of worms with that last question?
@webfoot I just priced an hp and a mac book (not air since I cannot download my photos to my knowledge) and for the same thing, my hp will save $1000. But I did get it custom ordered in Montreal which is France Light.
What is a PC? I prefer Mac everything, except for TV which has to be Sony!
@brumbe You guessed it Paula, I sleep with an Olympus catalogue beside the bed and drool over lenses on a regular basis. I have an EPL1 which I managed to buy heavily discounted as the E-P3 has just been released. I also like buying first in series of things as manufacturers usually go to great lengths with the first edition. It would be worth file going in to a camera store to see what you like. New E-P3 allows you to shoot be touching the LCD screen. Where you touch is where camera will focus in image. Kind of neat. If you buy one go for the 14-150 mm lens and don't get a twins lens kit. Saves changing over. There is a great set of other lenses including prime lenses. I have just bought the ultra wide 9-18mm on eBay (and can't wait for it to arrive). Currently looking for a 75-300 or a (older version) 70-300mm.
The advantage of PEN with adapter is you can use older lenses with an adapter. Panasonic Lumix micro four thirds are interchangeable. The critics rave about the 20mm Lumix and there is also one produced for it by Leica in the 40mm range that costs an arm and a leg. There is also a Lumix 100-300mm
There seem to be plenty of good deals in USA on eBay or Amazon (which also provides crits). I am going to buy an electronic viewfinder VF2 which I tested in store and uber cool. Depending on where you purchase there seem to be sales tax advantages in states.
It is also possible to buy adapters online which allow the use of other lenses such as Canon, Nikon and vintage lenses. The modern ones will only work manually, but with the vintage ones, thats what they are anyway. Some of the toy lens for micro four thirds through photojojo or Holga are to be experimented with.
Alison @fueast is also a PEN user. Her photos are always incredible
Hmmm Fuji wasn't worth including LOL...
Still saving for my first DSLR... haven't decided between Nikon or Canon yet (leaning slightly towards Nikon)... but hey.... same description on both so what to do now :-S LMAO
@beautifulthing But won't I want to switch to canon? (and visa verse) ;-) LOL My mom was a Nikon gal before the digital era.. now she has a Pentax and is reconsidering a Nikon LOL But both my sisters (@cbawernsen and @aiksas) have a Canon.... My O my.... :-S
@elke Yes, then, absolutely, buy a Canon. Then, hurry, come to your senses, and trade it in for a Nikon. Ha! HA! :) I love pre-digital Nikons - one of my dream cameras is a FM 2.
@beautifulthing I can't remember the type my mom had.. All I know that it was heavy for a 14 year old and I loved taking pic with it!! Don't worry I'm still leaning towards a Nikon... Still got plenty of time to think it over though... saving goes very slowwwww at the moment :-S LOL
Just bought a Yashica A on eBay for $50 dollars that "...is in exceptional condition and fully operational. It comes with the original box, original leather strap still rolled up in plastic, never opened, and instruction manual in original condition and leather case."
@peterdegraaff It says that I am jealous of you!! :) I've had my eye out for a Yashica, but I have to slow down a little on the camera buying after my Rollei purchase. :)
@elke I've owned a Canon DSLR for many years now and I love it. My sister even got one and she knows nothing about photography, so it's easy to use, as well.
Honestly, I don't have a preference with the type of camera I use as long as I'm capturing the right look, feel, and what I'm really trying to state in my photos. However, I wouldn't mind owning a sweet expensive camera one of these days!
@tford Dude, I personally own cameras that range from a $2 toy camera from Goodwill to a cell phone to two DSLRs to three vintage film cameras to Holga hipster cameras. :) Trust me - NO one around here will judge you for your camera, no matter what it is.
@sheg ... Bravo! And there is also a certain satisfaction from using what others may tell you is "not-the-very-best-camera-in-the-world" because they know the results are all your own work, unaided by the greatest designers and programmers in the world ... so there!

I do also have a Fuji and a Samsung (well, on my phone) which I love :)
Hahaha. I love Canon, my best friend is a Nikon, and its a constant war, but secretly, he owns 3 Canons and one Nikon hahaha. I own a Minolta and two Canons! I dont mind which camera it is to be completely honest, as long as it works!!
nothing for me though - "Panasonic, Fuji, Samsung, Minolta, Yashica owners and et cetera should be relieved rather than offended that they were not included." thanks for sharing!!
I have a Leica V-LUX 20. Mine just says Panasonic DMC-ZS7 on it and cost a lot less. I asked a Leica factory guy if there were any differences and he danced a little about quality control on the Leica labeled ones, but admitted there was no real difference. There are several cross over models.
OK I 'm stuffed according to his, I have a cannon 35m SLR a Nikon D50 and a Sony Compact that is kept with me all the time.
Ok so thats the Canon to Nikon change done. the compact was the best Feature set i could get at the minimal price did not want to spend a fortune on a camera that is exposed to the full rigors of day to day life.
Wow..this totally makes sense! Because one day I was sitting at my French computer wearing Peruvian underwear and I WOULD have been drinking a Korean beer, except I couldn't read the labels to find one that was non-alcoholic, when I thought "hey! I want some friends!" So being a lowly consumer I went and got a Powershot.. which led to a BETTER powershot.. which led to an even BETTER powershot.. but did NOT lead to a Nikon!! BWAAAHAAHAA because my Horoscope said that the aliens that abducted me were RIGHT and the Easter Bunny DId want me to have a SONY!

Pentax
LOL.
Me too. Spot on assessment.

BTW I know the Easter Bunny exists as I supply him with his eggs, I also know everything Sony writes is true, that's why I bought one :-)

Yeah - I own Sony and Mac.
Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.
I believe everything Steve Jobs ever told me. Even though he's gone now, I think he is still talking to us. Except, now, it's called Auto Correct.

Won't be able to sleep all night, but luckily I can switch on my Sony TV while playing on my apple product... @peterdegraaff @webfoot
Next thing you'll know, they'll be telling us there's no Santa Claus or Tooth Fairy.
