This is perhaps my favorite people photo that I took and I admit it got to me a bit. I was walking up the incline to the Vulcan Park path and this father along with his son were riding the bikes down the hill. The little boy had very obviously just gotten the training wheels removed and was struggling a bit. The Dad was very encouraging and told him to pick his feet up. So he did and held them out straight in front of him and kept coasting down the incline. Then the Dad told him “No, put them on the pedals.” Just a few words of specificity that changed the whole situation and the little boy shakily pedaled down the hill. As they passed I quickly turned to get the shot. This is one of those times that I wish I knew the family so I could send them this photo so that they could have that memory preserved in an image.
@juleswoome That's so sweet! @tracynugent It's simply stunning. They say a picture is worth a thousand words! @wrighty Love these - the sihouettes are amazing.
I think these are probably amongst the most iconic of my photos
taken just after the Mevagissey floods after the waters had died down the picture doesn't really show how bad it was at its worst the road there was 5 feet under water here fire crews are pumping out the water from the shops along the road
this was part of a bigger picture and came about purely by accident I changed the photo to black and white and all of a sudden the woman in the glasses popped out of the picture so I decided to put her in the spotlight
one of those pictures that really tells a story like any good iconic photograph should I saw this guy waiting for the bus and the opportunity was just too great to try and capture the character of his years
and 2 shots that crop up again and again because they are 2 I am the most proud of so I guess they are iconic :D
Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, CA
I love this view--it's sunset, it's a Ferris wheel, it's the end a of a work day, and it's a beautiful So. California sight. :-)
My variation of a slow exposure had some lovely comments which gave me a massive boost right at the start of my 365. And a big red bus is pretty iconic.
@marilyn It was a blast, but I would never want to do it down on street level. You have to get there by about 10 am, and once you're in, you can't leave. And there are no bathrooms.
@melissapike Thanks... the Butte is so easy to shoot, these were all taken with my iPhone. As for Times Square and NYE...10 am and no bathroom... No Way!
For me what I have learned through doing this project is that I love the portrait shots best.....my daughter was mortified by this shot.....lol! at 24 years old she thought it was too racey for others to see!
@marilyn Me too!! It would have been a lot better if it were not so foggy and cold that day...oh well! =) I've been on the London Eye as well!! That one is just GiNormous!!
@pwallis Thank you! It was named for Col. Steptoe who fought a battle with the (I think) Nez Perce Indians near there. And now the name steptoe is given to all similar land formations. Ta-da... your history and geology lessons for the day! You're welcome... :)

This photo has gotten lots of rave reviews by my friends and family.. everyone keeps telling me to frame it and hang it on a wall.

@hasselhotch Simply beautiful!
(btw, I just realised I probably sound like I think my pic is now iconic - I just meant the subject in the photo are iconic!!)
And of course, the Reunion Tower building -it's the part of the Dallas Skyline that looks like a big lit-up microphone at night:

and nothing says Seattle more than boats!

But I live in a historic city where the same images appear on postcards all over the place. Here are some of my variations on a theme of Cambridge:
motif #1 in Rockport Ma
Here's one that I think is sort of Iconic New England:
(Yes, I was insane enough to do Times Square on NYE... fortunately 7 stories up!)
This is one of the famous (cough cough) Frankfurt bridges (they are not really famous...):
And Stonehenge:
the bay...well its iconic in cardiff...
Landmark: Nauset Lighthouse in Cape Cod, MA
This is the most famous here on 365:
Although i take lots of pictures with different themes, i think what defines me most are landscape photography, specially cities.
The typical tourist shot - the London Eye. Iconic and amazing ...
BTW, your four shots above are stunning!
