At dinner over the weekend the people at the next table ordered sake. It came in a really fantastic little clay set. Naturally I wanted it. The husband pointed out that I don't like sake, like that has anything to do with anything.
men are so illogical
I figure I can't be the only one who at least ponders buying something just for the picture they could take with it.
If you mean having props in the closet and in three draws in my office and a few others hidden under the bed cause technically I have not purchased them yet then I'm guilty. If you mean driving some place just because you saw a really awsome landscape shot online some other place and wanted to get your own shot then I'm guilty of that too :) Oh and if you mean all the different dishes and stuff that are in the kitchen cupboards cause they would look good in food photography shots then I have some of those too :)
@k1w1 Oh also if you mean going over No tresspassing signs!
All the above are in my closet too! Yep, I do look at items to see if they would make a good photo!
LOL have you seen my collection of "little-people" photos? they were bought specifically for photos... a little different because i get to keep them but yeahhhhh i know what you mean... i got a drink at dinner the other day cause it looked pretty thought it would be a cool shot, it tasted so bad i forgot to take a photo!! hahaha
i am known far and wide for my frugality. My husband, children, friends, co-workers, and door to door salesmen call me cheap. I think they might be right.
So, if I happen to need a prop, I will buy it but it will be used and then quickly re-purposed for a practical reason. (Like - what garden doesn't need another rose bush!)
oh several times!! Most recently I bought a box of colour pencils and have them hidden in my cupboard away from the kids so they dont mess them up!! and either going on rather long road trips to get a shot or disguising a photoshoot idea as a 'family day out' to a location :) @k1w1
yes,i do buy stuff for my picture ideas/props...-but there are times i don'treally end on using 'em-but i got a lot of nieces/nephews/friends, kids that i share away after shootin' em.Mostly i buy Art stuff from Michaels,Target, Ikea,Walmart,Home-Depot and my fave is 99 cents store,it's my Disney land.------ am still shopping for a JBieber's doll--haha.i have so many crazy cool ideas for this pop-star ---lol !!:)I know,it's a waste but part of the hobby and it's Fun,don't u think so ?
And by that I mean, not yet. I have, however, done something that non-shutterbugs may find even more heinous: I have gone to the store to take pictures of stuff there without even buying it (http://365project.org/timerskine/365/2013-01-30).
My sister-in-law frequents the dollar stores and yard sales, always looking for props. She buys sparkly foam-core for backgrounds and sometimes fabric to use for a backdrop. I haven't had to buy anything yet, because I have so many things around here that I can use. But I would go to the store in a heartbeat, if I needed something for a prop!
Just last week I hit Walmart at 8 am - purchased black sheet, foam sheet and spray paint. Came home spray painted the foam and then set to work on my Valentines photo ideas. Next day it was a beautiful bag of lemons. Lets not even go to the laundry basket piling higher all the time with possible props. And I'm forgetting about all the crayons I bought for melting.....all for the sake of photographing.
I bought this Crystal Head Vodka bottle just for the photo op. I've used it lots, and it's still intact. (This is 2 shots of the same bottle, montaged together.)
Would an air ticket from Australia to London just to see and shoot the famous 365 bench in Trafalgar Square fit into this category? (For those who aren't familiar with this, @rich57 who is now @rich_t started a great series on life at a particular bench with others adding their shots - at http://365project.org/tags/bench-life)
Ok so I did attend a wedding and visit a few family members, but with only 1/2 a day actually in London, it did skew somewhat the area I forced my friend to take me to! And being from Oz it was a bit of a thrill to walk where the 365 have ;-)
HA! Yes, I do it all the time... Nothing very expensive of course, although 'amethyst' is coming up as a monthly challenge word and I don't have any amethyst jewellery......yet,,,,,!
Haha. The world would be so different (and practical) with men only. Not for the good of course :-) I remember WANTING to buy something but I can't remember what it was and if I did. So...I don't believe I'm guilty...
you're evil, @trailertrash. thank you, @miley89. I have two 750ml bottles now, plus 3 mini bottles, 2 shot glasses, and one skull-tini glass... almost the whole family. I did a group shot a few weeks back:
@filsie65 I'll have to tell my husband that you put the idea into my head for the shot so I can be forgiven for buying jewellery. Thanks so much for the excuse :)
Ok, that's it. I'm buying a sake set. Worse, there is a museum right next to the building where I work. I pass by the gift shop every day and there are some amazing things in there.
Yep - when I taught photography I used to do a fashion class in a studio with a model. One week the model phoned me from a train to say that she had left her outfits at home. I had to rush out and buy metallic pink and blue leggings, fishnet fingerless gloves, make up and various other items before the students arrived. Got some funny looks in the shops, I can tell you.
I bought this set of little plastic glasses just because I thought they would give me a rainy day project ! now I'm thinking about buying some little people to go with them !!!

I too am guilty of this...but very inexpensive things, like my sparkly heart from last week.
Oh and I have a couple of sake sets.... may need to pull one out for a slow day! :)

I have a shelf of random stuff I've picked up on various trips. I call it the Plan B shelf in case I run out of ideas.
I may have checked the lunar calendar when we started planning our trip to Yosemite next year. Nothing beats a full moon in Yosemite.
