Amazing photos that never make the PP

July 23rd, 2013
I have been feeling slightly hard done by ;) as on many occasions recently I have had photos with a good number of faves, that never get onto the PP.

Here is a recent example of a photo taken on the 21st with 30 faves that has not been on the PP, nor will it get on there now.

Update: So since I posted this the above photo ended up on PP ! but the point I highlighted remains valid. This example below received 59 faves and never made it on to the PP.

Two things made me feel better about this which I wanted to share with anyone else feeling like the magic monkeys don't like them anymore ;)

Firstly this earlier thread on the same topic which made me realise there is much more to this project than being on the PP:

http://365project.org/discuss/general/14605/the-un-pp-ed#comments

Secondly, it has made me discover the DAYS tab. I like to skip straight over to page 2 or 3 and have found a whole world of incredible photographers whose work is totally awesome and so often goes unnoticed.

Go and explore :) and please share below amazing photos that never make the PP, either your own or gems you discover.
July 23rd, 2013
I received some pretty good comments on this one of mine.

July 23rd, 2013
@lalypics this is lovely ---- what a cute grasshopper - love those sweet eyes and how he is hugging the flower.
July 23rd, 2013
Goodness, why wouldn't you @lalypics ? It's fab!

I agree with the whole PP thing- I really don't get it and, to my knowledge, I've never been on it. But then, we don't get told we're on it anyway, do we? So who knows?

I really never look at PP. The photos on it are fantastic but I'm doing project 365 for my own satisfaction and for this fantastic, supportive community. I feel that "new faces" needs my support most so I tend to look at that if I get any time at all beyond looking at those I follow already.

Love your photo too, @zambianlass. Well worthy of PP with 30 Favs so it just shows what a random process that is.
July 23rd, 2013
I haven't researched this so I may be completely wrong, but I think that the monkeys do it by math. The more followers you have the higher your number of favs has to be for you to get onto PP. When I first joined I made PP pretty quickly, but as my followers have grown (yay!) my PPs have dropped. I think it is a percentage thing. It makes you feel very welcome when you first join and then you hit the "what happened?" stage. At the moment, I am using it as an inspiration to move me onwards and upwards. Take a look at some of the current PPs and see if you think that I'm correct. I think that the work that you're doing is phenomenally good and I agree that you shouldn't be "chasing favs", but I can understand how disappointing it is to suddenly not be making it to PP as frequently. It's a little like a happiness fix being on PP.
July 23rd, 2013
@angelar I found your photos on the DAYS tab Angela and they are so wonderful... each and every one of them - you really are a superb photographer. I adore this one of yours

July 23rd, 2013
@zambianlass Did you know that your kingfisher is in the Top Twenty this week? That is an honour way above the PP.
July 23rd, 2013
@zambianlass Hey thanks!

I've just had a look at the days tab as a result of this discussion and I never realised it was there. I've found someone new to follow too as a result of this great photo on page 2 of "day".
http://365project.org/lucypics/spare/2013-07-23
@lucypics

Another great photograph not making it to PP?

How on earth are people putting photos in here? I too can only seem to do it as a link which isn't as good.

July 23rd, 2013
I am just starting my second year. I have had some quirky luck with a handful of pics getting to the PP. But, most of them were unexpected. I don't have a great number of followers, and feel that pics where I have hit a new benchmark with ability, etc. would never get there. I am always flattered, but most of all I know the bar is set so high here, that each day it forces me to be my best. And, that is just fine with me. I started this as a personal journey. It has led me to places I would have never dreamed I would be. @zambianlass
July 23rd, 2013
Strange ... info about this photo says it was on pp
July 23rd, 2013
Here you go! @angelar
July 23rd, 2013
Happens to all of us from time to time. There have been times when I've had pics with 40, 50, 60 favs which finished in Top 10 but never made PP. Its all a lot of computer algorithm crap. I told Ross he should dump that system as its more aggrevating to people.
July 23rd, 2013
a recent shot had 35 Favs and didnt make the PP:

July 23rd, 2013
Looks as if your pic did make the PP, Nicky. :-)
July 23rd, 2013
56 Favs and in T20 but not PP (I can go on and on):

July 23rd, 2013
@steff thanks for your lovely reply Steff, I think your points are very valid. Thank you for your helpful insight :-) sweet of you to comment here :-) I really love following your album particularly as you are a fellow African Lass :-)
July 23rd, 2013
@jankoos hehe - the monkey must have heard my plee ... it has literally just gone up there... my point remains as @michaelelliott points out above...
July 23rd, 2013
@michaelelliott really amazing photos Michael - I love following your album. A world away from my home...
July 23rd, 2013
@angelar Angela - yes Lucy is a star too :) to put the pics in here you copy the code under the photo info on the right where it says views, comments, favs and tags etc, and paste it in here
July 23rd, 2013
Congrats-I just saw ur cool image now on PP--:) @zambianlass
July 23rd, 2013
Boo
HAHAHA I have given up trying to understand the inner workings of the PP gremlins....
July 23rd, 2013
technology vexes me
July 23rd, 2013
As a programmer myself, I am guessing there is a magical little algorithm that only the programmer will really ever understand. :)
July 23rd, 2013
I wouldn't worry about it. It is an algorithm. It's not related to your number of followers but more your recent average number of favs per pic. Consistency is not the key! If you really want to play the system put loads of rubbish pictures in your extras album to reduce your average. Not that I'm suggesting that anybody does do that obviously.... So there you go, post more bad pictures :-) and what ever you do don't get moved onto the Michael Elliot algorithm! @michaelelliott
July 23rd, 2013
I can't speak for myself, but like Michael ( @michaelelliott ), Jake ( @soren ) is unloved by the monkeys too.

This shot was #2 on the T20, but never made PP... many of his don't even though they seem to have the numbers. It's just one of those mysteries that'll never get solved! :)

July 23rd, 2013
@fueast - hahaha Ross had told me at one point that my base avg was 38 favs a pic so I had to exponentially exceed that in order to make PP. Its all so silly and you nailed it - success is ones worst enemy if looking to make PP all the time and instead just post lots of rubbish on extra album. Haha.
July 23rd, 2013
@michaelelliott Oh - it not even linear? I;m always impressed by nonlinearity!
July 23rd, 2013
@fueast @grizzlysghost @soren - You know what? PP is all drivel anyway because it has no meaningful value. This current pic of mine has 41 FAVS AND COUNTING but no PP. And if it does make the PP I want to reject the PP - the way we do at Yankee Stadium throwing a visitors homerun back onto the field!

July 23rd, 2013
all this talk of PP now I got to go to the men's room ;)
July 23rd, 2013
@michaelelliott LOL to the Yankees reference! Love when that happens!
July 23rd, 2013
@michaelelliott I disagree - you've got more than 1000 followers and you're hardly short of attention! But remember when you first started and people saw your early photo's on there and decided to follow you. It's important for a lot of new people in this way. My only beef with it is that it currently makes things harder for people who only post 1 pic a day and that seems a bit unfair. Not that I'm even managing that at the moment actually..... just plain lazy.

And don't get me started on h-factors!
July 23rd, 2013
@fueast @grizzlysghost @soren - Oh I'm just rebel rousing as I'm a bit bored at work at the moment and reaching my end of Yr 2 so losing my enthusiam for the site lately. @zambianlass didnt mean to hijack and happy you just made the PP :-)
July 23rd, 2013
@michaelelliott Good heavens- that should have made it!
July 23rd, 2013
@zambianlass Thanks for the guidance how to put pics in discussions. That's what 365 is really all about- us following each others' journeys and learning something new every day!
July 23rd, 2013
I think this hilarious shot by Crom helps answer some questions :-)

July 23rd, 2013
This has been a really interesting discussion about a topic that I was intrigued about too. I recently found out that you can track your PPs too.
http://alexisbirkill.com/365project/popularpage/getuserdetails.php?username=steff
Paste this into a browser, but change my name (Steff) for yours. It will list any of your pics that made it to PP and if you click on any of them it will show how that pic rose and fell in popularity.
@ZambianLass
July 23rd, 2013
Hi Nicky, your shot made the PP for a short time. If you want to check - there is a great link, created by Alexis Birkill (@abirkill). You can view all of your PP shots after the end of April 13 by entering your username at http://alexisbirkill.com/365project/popularpage/
If you then click on the image it will tell you the time it entered the PP, what position it made and when it dropped out. I used to worry about PP and had some success now I'm just pleased to get a shot, let alone comment :)
July 23rd, 2013
I think I made it once back in February. I was very excited at the time but now, as before that happened, every comment I get means the world.
Like most of us, I'm doing this project for me and for my own reasons.
Obviously it's fantastic to get any kind of feedback but I think I've come to terms with the fact that even the photos I'm proudest of may never see the PP page...

...and I'm ok with that.
July 23rd, 2013
I still think a 'random page' would be better than a 'popular page'....

Thank you for posting this @zambianlass and that is a fabulous photo! I never really use the tabs, other than occasionally New Faces. Lol, if I hit Suggestions, I'm likely to find myself and others I'm already following! So, now I'll try Day.
July 23rd, 2013
@fueast very interesting read --- and what you say makes sense... it made me giggle you point about posting lots of rubbish shots to even things up....
July 23rd, 2013
@grizzlysghost I know Jake is also unloved --- I think sometimes the monkeys are intimidated by great talent such as you, @soren and @michaelelliott seem to display on a regular basis :)
July 23rd, 2013
@michaelelliott don't mind the hijacking at all... that was the whole point of this thread so thank you for your comments :)
July 23rd, 2013
@allisonraposa brilliant - thanks for posting this :)
July 23rd, 2013
@steff I have found it very enlightening... and didn't know about the tracking - thank you :)

@malc thanks Malc - didn't know about that - going to check it out
July 23rd, 2013
The only thing I know for sure is that the magic monkeys have a thing for squirrels. Post a picture of a squirrel and it will show up on the PP.
July 23rd, 2013
@nanalisarocks your so welcome :)
July 23rd, 2013
I agree there are alot of fantastic photots that never get to the PP. The more followers you have the more Favs you are going to get and I believe the way they choose the PP has nothing to do with how many Favs a pic gets. I agree with the others that I'm doing this project for me and improving my photography.
July 23rd, 2013
@zambianlass I agree! Initially I started the project just for me...then I began to feel a bit unloved as some days I barely get a comment, despite commenting on fellow 365er projects...are my images that bad? None of my popular images have ever made it to PP. But now I keep reminding myself that I am here to learn and be inspired, and have "met" some amazing photographers and that makes it all worthwhile!

I love your photos and seeing the wonderful country you live in! Don't give those monkeys a second thought :) !
July 23rd, 2013
@lisabell hehe funny
July 23rd, 2013
I am well into my 3rd year now.. I have experienced times of being popular, when I could spend ages setting photos up etc.. and nowdays I hardly make the PP..
I don't have an issue with this either..
I joined to improve my photography, even when I have little time for the project, I still feel that I am learning.. I never joined 365 to become 'popular' and in some respects I am glad that I don't have the pressure that some have on here..

When you are very popular (I was at the end of my first year and going into my second year, reaching 1000 followers), the pressure becomes huge.. Keeping up with comments, feeling the guilt about what you have time to give etc..
It was good to step back, to lose that pressure.. to go back to enjoying the project rather than feeling like I was catering to the masses... My photography is a more accurate account of a photo blog for me now rather than giving people what they want..

July 23rd, 2013
I'm another person who, like @michaelelliott (and I'm sure others) seems to have fallen into a PP 'black hole', where despite regularly getting many favourites and shots ending up on the Top 20, I almost never get featured on the PP page.

I don't know for sure if that's because we're so consistenly awesome ;) (that is, our photos regularly get a lot of favourites, so the algorithm doesn't see any of our photos as being unusually special), or if there's a certain ratio of followers/favs/comments that happen to be slightly unfavoured by the algorithm, and we're currently at that point.

I'm not too concerned, personally -- the PP is a great way to find interesting shots, and it's very rare I see a photo on there that I think isn't deserving. Additionally, as I do get into the Top 20 (and therefore also do get lots of faves from my awesome followers), I'm certainly not feeling like my photos aren't getting the attention they deserve.

Here are some recent ones that failed to make PP:

59 faves, 78 comments:

32 faves, 69 comments:

66 faves, 88 comments:

What I find more interesting is how photos can do so differently on different sharing sites. As an example, here is my photo 'Cosmos', which has received 22 faves and 44 comments -- it didn't make PP or the Top 20:

I'm certainly not complaining that it 'only' received that many faves or comments -- it's awesome that it received that many. But the same shot on Flickr received 515 faves and is *still* the number one most 'interesting' photo on the entirety of Flickr (which has well over 6 billion photos) for the search term 'star trails':

http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=star+trails&ss=2&s=int

Fascinating how a different audience can elicit such a different reception!
July 23rd, 2013
PP is OK - but it can't be scientific. Otherwise high scorers like the ones mentioned would make it to PP. Nor is it discriminating. Too many super images never get that many favs. I see beautiful, striking, moody, creative pix. Are they on PP?!

Those wotsit monkeys have no taste, and they can't count! And I can't be bothered to keep checking or use that url someone has kindly worked out, appreciate the effort, but it should be easy for all to check - if they really want to.

Just post your pix, enjoy your project and the images of others!
July 23rd, 2013
A fantastic post from @zambianlass and like others I have totally given up on the PP page, I seemed to feature on it so rarely anyway and the amount of fav's I seem to get doesn't help. So I just need to remember who I am doing this project for, and it is me. All you guys help keep me going when I struggle (and that happens a lot!) so i'll stick with that for now!

Keep up the good work everyone!
July 23rd, 2013
@abirkill @michaelelliott @fueast @grizzlysghost Oh c'mon. I have seen lots of all of your photos on the PP at various times, and I am sure it will happen for you too @zambianlass

Alexis does point to an interesting phenomena and that is the difference in perception and subjectivity between sites. I have photos that rate highly on Flickr, yet have not been so popular on 365. I suspect this is because Flickr appeals to different audiences and Yahoo is able to employ a staff of editors. 365 works quite differently and we all appreciate its sense of community and seem to get by even with the magic of algorithms or monkeys. My first photos on the popular page didn't come for nearly a year, and even though I was aware of the PP's existence rarely looked at it, nor still do. I am always pleased to have photos featured there, but in the end it does not determine whether I will be taking photos or posting them. That is driven by my own passion for photography to express myself in the images I capture around me, and to develop my skills so I can express myself even more creatively and at my best.

I am always grateful to those who like at my photos and support me by leaving a comment, or even a fav or two.
July 23rd, 2013
@peterdegraaff I've had two photos in PP in the last three months. @zambianlass has had 8 i the last three months (including the one posted at the top of this thread). You've had 36 in the last three months.

As I say, I'm not saying it doesn't ever happen, but there certainly are people who regularly garner a lot of comments and faves but rarely end up in PP.

Both PP and Flickr's Explore are both entirely computer-based algorithms -- there is no editor input on Flickr's Explore. One of the reasons I don't have any complaints about PP is that, in my opinion, it does a much better job of highlighting good photos than Flickr's Explore, which frequently comes up with photos that are extremely average (such as one of my favourite examples, this amazing photo of a fridge).
July 24th, 2013
@abirkill I am shocked that I have had so many. I must watch the PP or stalk myself more.

I had understood that Flickr Explore was moderated by editors, but I might be wrong.
July 24th, 2013
@abirkill @peterdegraaff - you both make many good points. Alexis those pics of yours are truly exceptional and obviously deserved of distinction. Perhaps a Trending Pic Page would capture pure popular pics. anyway despite on occasional comment, I never complain (almost never ;) about not making this or that. I've appeared regularly in Top 20 and PP for a long time now and had my fill of it all. Besides I've always said there are pics out there from others as deserving, or even more deserving of attention but don't get it for a variety of reasons. So I too am not too concerned about the PP black hole ive fallen into. This site is really about community and supportiveness and I've met digitally and in real life many wonderful fellow photog enthusiasts from it. There are other sites for pure competitiveness. Cheers guys and see you in the "black hole" or maybe not ;)
July 24th, 2013
@peterdegraaff Flickr editors may select photos for other exposure, such as on the Flickr Blog, but what is commonly referred to as Flickr Explore, a selection of 500 of the most 'interesting' photos of the day, is generated mathematically.

Flickr have a patent describing how their interestingness algorithm works, although the exact details are, of course, kept secret.

If you think people obsess about PP here, you should see some of the attempts to figure out and game the Flickr Explore algorithm. There are various groups dedicated to trying to work out how to get shots onto Explore, and what ratio of views, comments, faves, entered groups, tags, geolocation, internal links, external links, etc. etc. is required to get a high Explore score. One of the bigger ones is here.

Various photo-sharing sites have some form of PP/Explore to highlight certain photographs automatically. I've never yet found one where there isn't a large number of people dissatisfied by the selections made -- that's simply human nature.
July 24th, 2013
@peterdegraaff Haha, Peter, in my defense I did say "I can't speak for myself" (I've had a couple) :) And Jake fell into the black hole as soon as he created his new account (his last account didn't suffer so). He's only had 7 in the last three months. Not that anybody is complaining, we are just discussing how interesting the selection process is!

You don't have to watch PP or stalk yourself, just use Alexis' website: here's yours: http://alexisbirkill.com/365project/popularpage/getuserdetails.php?username=%40peterdegraaff

Paste it into your profile or something so it's easy to just click on there! :)
July 24th, 2013
@grizzlysghost What a fabulous set of photos. lol
July 24th, 2013
@abirkill - I'm in awe at your tech knowledge. If I every need to put a computer expert on witness stand you're my guy!
July 24th, 2013
@abirkill Haha, that's a pretty fun discussion group! My Explored images come and go, I don't really pay much attention to it there either; I just check Scout now and then :)
July 24th, 2013
@abirkill Most of my photos that have been "explored", such an ugly neologism, have been 4x5. Go figure. I still think there is an "amusingness" where PP or Explore status then becomes a reason to post a copy of the page onto FB, retag the photo to highlight, or rename.

It would be fun to take a photo of explorers with monkeys adventuring and give it a snazzy name to reference.
July 24th, 2013
@peterdegraaff I agree, fantastic! :)
July 24th, 2013
Crikey - this is getting pretty esoteric - and boring! And all those sad people trying to find ways of being in some select wotsit on Flickr - get a life, do something useful. Goodnight! 00.36 BST here.
July 24th, 2013
@zambianlass i am pretty sure i saw that pic on the PP very recently....
July 24th, 2013
the first pages I visit are the ones of the people I follow and who follow me - I then go to new faces followed by wandering through the latest pages - I randomly pop into PP page - mainly to see if any friends have made it haha - I had some make PP and realised what mattered to me was the thoughts of the wonderful people who follow me - their encouragement, ideas and thoughts -
July 24th, 2013
@angelar
Ross has a new feature now that tells you if you made the PP. It only started with recent photos. On the right side of your project page where the views, comment, favs, etc. are listed there is now one that says "featured on the PP" if that picture made it there.
July 24th, 2013
@malc Thank you Malc for sharing the link that tells us what's made the PP and thank you Alexis @abirkill for creating it. What a great site.
July 24th, 2013
Some of the folks commenting here I have seen your share of pics on the PP & TT. I believe the MORE followers you have the better the chance of making the PP & TT, you get the comments and favs by being exposed to a larger audience. Sure there are always exceptions to the rule and some will slip thru the cracks. Then again I see pics on the PP and I wonder how the heck that got on here.
July 24th, 2013
Nia
Huh, well other than reading more about the ever amusing, frustrating little magic monkeys I just found out one of my images was briefly popular. It's a guessing game, I'll just keep snapping away. I do love finding and image on TT that I haven't seen on the PP. it's like a little surprise gift.
July 24th, 2013
well, i'm kinda past angsting about it... i've had my fair share on pp an' all so have nothing to complain about... but this one i thought was kinda special and i'm pretty sure it never made it to pp...

and then there's this one by @humphreyhippo that i am pretty sure was in the same boat and that i think is killer

as an aside, i got a comment on one of my flickr shots that it had made explore, which seems HUGELY unlikely... but the comment came from someone i'm pretty sure i don't know so not sure how else he would have found the shot?
July 24th, 2013
I understand your frustration.

Not that I try to get on the PP or thing I ever will, but because it seems as though the people who are already professionals or who have fancy DSLRs and their own customers and studios or whatever get all of the attention and motivation and the kind words that they probably wouldn't need as much as those of us who are beginners (less than beginners) and who could use a word of encouragement.

This is NOT to sound bitter, I truly love 365. It's just an observation. And it's just the way of the world.
July 24th, 2013
I briefly made the PP a couple of months ago and was shocked at how it made me feel. It made me cry, crazy as that sounds, and my daughter managed to take a snap of it with my computer, so I have a pic of it. The photo didn't stay long but it's hard for me to say much because, though I hope my photos speak to people on occasion, my skills are lacking. That said, it sure doesn't seem like math in my case. This is one i felt happy with:-)
July 24th, 2013
@zambianlass ah thank you Sarah :)
July 24th, 2013
@abirkill this is all so interesting Alex and your photos are always inspiring. I also love how you share that you have taken them.

What I have noticed is if you aren't posting a photo everyday that seems to land you in the black hole which I think may be why some of your incredible photos are overlooked by the system.

I couldn't believe it when the photo example I used landed on pp but I have many others I could have picked and as you Michael and others have pointed out, that do not get on the PP despite many, many faves. The point of this discussion was to highlight there is so much more to this project than pp so keep up your awesome work. We know how fabulous you are.
July 24th, 2013
@lalypics @lubybee @kaleidoscopeyes @northy @sianipops @hollandcrew @mittens @mrsbaldy @ivan @grizzlysghost @peterdegraaff @grizzlysghost @michaelelliott @vokesy @michelleyoung @wildwood28 @paula1 @lisabell @nanalisarocks @styru @jojackson @malc @steff @angelar @luvmynynix @fueast @lalypics @aponi @jodimuli @jankoos @welcometocarolworld

Just wanted to thank you all for your interesting comments.

My point of this discussion, which perhaps I didn't make very clear as many of you mentioned it to me, was that there is so much more to 365 than landing on the PP and if you end up in the black hole, you are actually in very good company. Just remember to enjoy your own adventure with your camera and the wonderful 365 community that you make friends with along the way.
July 24th, 2013
I'm always open to what I can find on 365. I liked the idea of checking on Days to see what has been done and i'm getting the hang of reading how a camera was set for a photo under view info. It would be interesting to know how many people are actually on the site and how many are professionals. Thanks for starting this conversation. My photo on the PP meant a great deal to me - didn't give me any delusions of grandeur - but was a shot in the old arm. I also look at Suggestions quite a bit and have found some wonderful photos and people there too. And I made it through a creative slump last week and owe that in great part to 365. AND @zambianlass, I love your photography!!
July 24th, 2013
@northy Thank you. That's one of my favourites!
You can find your shots that made Flickr Explore on Scout: http://bighugelabs.com/scout.php
July 24th, 2013
@lubybee thanks for your lovely comment :) looking forward to following your project :)
July 24th, 2013
all these issues about being on the PP to me sounds like we're back at highshcool again and trying to be in with the cool kids :)

I think i've had 1 on the PP in the past 3 years i've been here and that doesnt particularly bother me because I did this project for me in 2010 and am just here from time to time to keep in touch with people and try to offer any tips that i've learnt.

July 24th, 2013
@toast Kitty!!!! So cute
July 24th, 2013
The whole PP thing is a real bag of different emotions and opinions - I can relate to them all! By "Days" do you mean the "view by day" tab? that is the only one I can find...
July 24th, 2013
@toast hehe I hear you...

What a gorgeous photo --- so cute - what amazing eyes :)
July 24th, 2013
@happysnap Hi Linda

That is what I mean yes...

I have just been browsing and found @onyx

July 24th, 2013
@zambianlass Now that was really worth browsing for wasn't it!
@onyx
July 24th, 2013
@lubybee I have just read your post above Luretta and I have to say, I find your photos far from lacking! I particularly like this one for example:

Tried an experiment with Jake's awesome shot tonight to see if he could break free from the black hole - hasn't worked yet, but it's now past midnight and I need to be up and at Em early so if any of you are up and want to help here's the shot

@sianipops

Well done Nia - I saw you extra long comment over many lines... Have done my bit with a fav and a double comment....

This has been extremely interesting discussion, and it makes me feel better when a photo that gets a ton of great comments or favs doesn't make PP. However, I think most of us like to share our photos with others, or we wouldn't be here. And, most of us have a few followers who regularly comment on our photos. But, if we create a special photo, we want to share it with non-followers. So, I see the PP's function as a way to share that photo outside our normal range of followers. And, that is where the algorithm might not be doing the job very well. Sorry, I don't have a satisfactory solution.

Aghh....periodically I have to have a serious talk with myself and remind myself why I started this project in the 1st place! it was definitely not to make PP. Having a photo on PP a few times changed how I felt about the photos I was posting. I noticed a change in my attitude when I was not getting any views or comments. As I near the end of my project I can look back on how much I have grown as a photographer, all the wonderful people I have met and PP seems the least important of it all!

oh shoot. what's the PP page? Lol.

Im lucky to get 5 comments much less 36 faves. You people are too awesome and I take way too many photos of my kids to even think about the PP page. I do go check it out every once in a while though because it usually has some pretty fantastic photos showcased.

@abirkill I swear i saw some of the photos you posted on there not that long ago. Especially the top one! Im almost sure of it. :)

@zambianlass Wow! Such a valid concern. It is great to see amazing photographers from all the different venues. Wonder what the process really is? Thanks for bringing this up.

@eyesmile "the black hole" - some people who have had many views, comments and faves on a photo yet still don't show up on the pp must be in a black hole ( not visible to the algorithm that sorts out photos for the pp (popluar page). I tried with @soren's photo and despite many views comments and faves I never saw it on the pp.

@michaelelliott - noticed that.... ;)
