New theme. "What can you see...?" #1

February 28th, 2014
A new challenge / theme! (Perhaps that should be a cheme or a thallenge then?)

This was sparked off by a conversation I had with @jmrittle and his picture "What's in the corner?" but it was a little limiting so I have broadened the scope just a little.

This new cheme / thallenge or call it what you will is to be called "What Can You See...?" where the winner of the challenge will be able to add the subject of their choice. That gives folks the chance to get creative like "What can you see ... in your underwear drawer?" or whatever.

It is open to all comers so get cracking and snapping!

So I am going to start you off with "What can you see... through your front door?". Now I don't mind if you want to be truthful and give us a glimpse of what is really through your front door (some folks like to see this sort of thing because they like me are nosey!)

or whether you choose to Edit The Spit Out Of It. The choice is yours.

The only really hard and fast rule is that all shots should be taken within the timescale of the theme (i.e. today until next Thursday)

So, it is now up to you lovely folks to photograph what is through your front door in whatever manner you choose. The start date is today, Friday 28th February 2014 and the end date is midnight on Thursday 6th March 2014. I will then choose five finalists and ask you to vote until the end of Sunday 9th of March before handing on the reins to the winner. I am hoping that the winner will then come up with something innovative and exciting such as "What can you see... up the vicar's cassock" or something like that! There should be huge scope.

Don't forget to tag your shots with WCYS-1 or we won't be able to see your magnificent efforts.

Off you go and photograph that wonderful front door scenery!

Cheers

Paul

Paul, do you mind if i jump in the group?
February 28th, 2014
This sounds so much fun! Looking forward to seeing a glimpse into people's lives!
February 28th, 2014
@longexposure It's open to anyone and everyone - the list of folks above are just the people who thought it was a fair idea.
February 28th, 2014
@cgarner Come and join us!
February 28th, 2014
Sounds like fun Paul!! I think I will have a go at this.
February 28th, 2014
Omg! This could be such fun! Must remember to do something tonight as I am away starting tomorrow... Tx for initiating this new challenge!
February 28th, 2014
Love it! And the front door is a much better start than dusty old corners. Paul, you are such a great photographer, and I will do my best. Here is my front door view: snow.

February 28th, 2014
@pamknowler Thanks Pam. Just remember that when you win, you have to think of the next theme "What can you see... in that car with misted up windows?" or whatever! :o))
February 28th, 2014
@northy Go for it Northy - I hope that your trip away is pleasure not business.
February 28th, 2014
@jmrittle Thanks Marc but I disagree - it will take quite some skill to take an interesting shot through a front door and I don't have that !
February 28th, 2014
Boo
Yeah :-)
February 28th, 2014
I have got to try this.
February 28th, 2014
This is going to be fun .... :-)
February 28th, 2014
@steampowered Not much chance of that Paul - never won a challenge yet!! LOL!! Great fun to take part though!!
February 28th, 2014
The beautiful view from my front door :)
February 28th, 2014
@huvesaker Go for it Boo!
February 28th, 2014
@caroli Thanks Carol. As many front door pics as you like! :o)
February 28th, 2014
@willowdragon Thanks Al. I expect great things from you! :o)
February 28th, 2014
@lynnilou That is fabulous Lyn!
February 28th, 2014
@lynnilou That is brilliant!
February 28th, 2014
I'm in!
February 28th, 2014
So funny I spotted a heron on my neighbour's roof and got this shot from my front door!! Not sure it qualifies!! LOL!!

February 28th, 2014
@pamknowler This totally qualifies... and it's amazing! Also I love your view, @lynnilou - nothing better :)
February 28th, 2014
@eyesofbetsie Thanks BPP. Lovely to see you here BTW - I've missed you and your beautiful photography.
February 28th, 2014
@pamknowler This so qualifies! The shot doesn't have to contain a door, just what you can see! That is why I love this group - so much innovation and creatively looking around the confines of the subject.
February 28th, 2014
You have a much better view than I do. Mine is a plain wooden door that faces onto the windowless brick wall of the corridor (that's blocks of flats for you).
February 28th, 2014
Outdoor lighting above my garage can be seen from my front door ;)

February 28th, 2014
@mercuria Time to get creative then Ariel! Use Photoshop to mock up some graffiti onto the wall perhaps?
February 28th, 2014
@sassyinma Nice! Don't forget to tag it with WCYS-1 otherwise it won't get entered!
February 28th, 2014
February 28th, 2014
@ounooi Nice one, Marelize!
February 28th, 2014
OK, here's a cheeky wee collage of what I see through my front door, without opening it!

February 28th, 2014
@jamibann Nice one Issi. Don't forget to tag it with WCYS-1 or it won't get included for the voting.
February 28th, 2014
Oops!
February 28th, 2014
@jamibann Don't worry - I've done it a zillion times!
February 28th, 2014
@steampowered love love love this!
February 28th, 2014
@lynnilou that is the best view I have ever seen.As far as I am concerned..you win.Contest over.Lol!
February 28th, 2014
@mzzhope Excellent! I look forward to peeking through your letter box! :o)
February 28th, 2014
@mzzhope I put it in the description above "The start date is today, Friday 28th February 2014 and the end date is midnight on Thursday 6th March 2014. I will then choose five finalists and ask you to vote until the end of Sunday 9th of March before handing on the reins to the winner."
February 28th, 2014
February 28th, 2014
@steampowered I saw that! Deleted my question but you answered it too fast! You are a quick guy! Lol
February 28th, 2014
@kathyboyles Tee hee! That's smashing. I have two of my own monsters who would run screaming from this!
February 28th, 2014
@mzzhope Tee hee! Too quick... just ask Mrs Snapchap... ;o)
February 28th, 2014
@mzzhope Thanks for that! I am lucky in that I run a daycare from home, and had many willing volunteers for that photo!
February 28th, 2014
February 28th, 2014
@rosiekind Smashing! Thanks Rosie. It's so nice to see you entering the theme.
February 28th, 2014
@steampowered
Paul,thanks! What type of monsters do you have? Kathy
February 28th, 2014
@steampowered I saw these 2 back in the garden this morning when I got up and looked out the front door. I was going to put the food out for the blackbirds but had to get the duck food out first!
February 28th, 2014
@kathyboyles Two cats, Timisoara Vibrissa and Luziferus ffoulkes. Up until two weeks ago we had a third but, poor old lady, we had to call the vet in to administer the final mercy because she was failing quickly. http://365project.org/steampowered/something-diffe/2014-02-10
February 28th, 2014
@steampowered
Adorable. Sorry for your loss. Kathy
February 28th, 2014
@kathyboyles It isn't a major problem. I am cowardly enough to have wished for her to have gone to sleep at night and not woken up the next day however I know that I can't shirk my responsibility to allow her to pass with a sense of dignity. I wouldn't want to have kept her alive just for our sakes when she was starting to suffer. I still get weepy but she had a long and comfortable life which is what matters the most. I am left with lots of memories.
February 28th, 2014
@steampowered
My philosophy EXACTLY. Kathy
February 28th, 2014
Not sure if this is what you are talking about.
March 1st, 2014
@steampowered yep - vacation-bound :)
March 1st, 2014
@northy Great! Enjoy yourself (and send back a pic from your front door from wherever you are headed!)
March 1st, 2014
@miata2u Hi Peggy. Yes that is fine (as long as it is shot from a front door). You will need to tag the photograph with WCYS-1 so that it gets entered into the competition.
March 1st, 2014
@lynnilou I love this shot. So cute.
March 1st, 2014
Reality photography right here!
March 1st, 2014
@bellasmom Nice! It is fascinating to see how such a mundane subject is bringing forth a lot of interesting pictures.
March 1st, 2014
@steampowered Thank you! I love that I took this last night before seeing your post with this front door idea!
March 1st, 2014
What is really through my front door!

March 1st, 2014
@willowdragon Thanks Al. It is nice to see how others see their world.
March 1st, 2014

@jackie8 Ulp! Now I have vertigo!
March 2nd, 2014
I won't be able to participate because I'm traveling during the dates and won't be able to upload, however want to tell how much I like this idea for the theme/challenge. Great job, Paul! @steampowered

Here's one I took last year just for fun...

March 2nd, 2014
@ikamera Never mind Kiran. It's a smashing shot and I am sure that the winner of this week's challenge will come up with something really inventive and creative for the next "What can you see..." challenge / theme.
March 2nd, 2014
I sure won't miss it.:-)
March 3rd, 2014
Oh what a difference a day makes...

@bellasmom Fabulous! Your pup doesn't like it that much!

@brianarmoured Brilliant. Thanks for your shot.

Oh this is going to be fun...thanks for starting it!
March 6th, 2014
Such a fun idea!

March 6th, 2014
@overalvandaan That's gorgeous Saxa!. You got your shot into the challenge in good time (entries to be in before midnight UK GMT tonight for judging and selection for voting tomorrow)
March 6th, 2014
Took this just in time today...
March 6th, 2014
@cgarner Nice use of the arch as a frame but is it the view through your front door though? :o)
March 6th, 2014
@steampowered Yes it's the front door to college where I live (I know pretty fancy - I'm just showing off now!). Although technically you could argue it's not the door to my actual room, but that's a corridor, which looks onto a fire door, pretty boring.
March 6th, 2014
@cgarner Brilliant! That means I can include it!
March 6th, 2014
@steampowered I've been meaning to take this shot all week since I saw the start of your challenge because it's a pretty amazing view from a front door. Sadly it will only be my home until June once I graduate, it'll be back to some cheap flat somewhere - well until I make my millions! :)
March 6th, 2014
@steampowered thanks, I saw your challenge in @caroli her album and thought it a great idea!
March 7th, 2014

I'm tired of seeing this out my front door! It's finally warmer today and there's serious melting going on.
March 7th, 2014
@voiceprintz Thanks ~~JT. We didn't get any snow this year thankfully
