Hello Fellow 365ers,
I've decided to stretch myself by attempting to photograph a month's worth of self portraits in May. Fellow photogs Stacy @sdpace and Elizabeth @clsr2fn are up for the challenge as well and aim to capture some amazing shots. We thought it would be fun to invite the 365 community to join in. All photos must be taken by you, of you, doing anything that makes you You! Looking forward to seeing everyone's creativity
Challenge starts on this Sunday, May 1st - tag each photo "May Challenge SP"
@indiannie_jones still. laughing. mostly at myself. I'm comedic genius, sometimes. Please see enclosed example of random hilarity. (have you ever browsed the tag "bird shit" ?
@sdpace- I agree - set those parameters now lol... Too funny! I am not sure anyone is really interested in seeing a month of me on this site- geez I am pretty sure I don't want to see a month of me... Maybe one or two days:)) I will start with my own bird shit photo( credit to @sdpace of course:))
I will pledge to do one week of selfies including at least one full body selfie (fully clothed, of course--I saw, hmmn, earlier "the turtle" discussion). heeheehee (no puns intended) Dang, I crack myself up with my own wit. "/
Hmm... I am probably my least favorite subject. Always felt more of a 'behind the camera' type. Quite predictably my selfies are pretty awful, or else I would like them taking them more ;) What else to do then but say..
I'm in. (Here's to a month of failing, learning, and maybe at the end - a decent selfie)
Welcome to one of the toughest challenges ever! You are all fabulous photographers and Im sure you'll capture beautiful shots of yourself. Looking forward to seeing them all, this is a great chance to get uber creative.
A month! That's a lot of pictures! Especially considering I'm camera shy and have only uploaded one real self portrait since Jan 1. But then again one of the things I wanted to achieve in my project is stepping outside of my comfort zone...
I might try it but if I do it will be in an extra album.
@atalitude - since i don't have a specific theme for the month of may, i think i'll tag along, too, do you mind? my problem is i laugh so hard everytime i do a selfie. or maybe some goof would grab my camera and tripod while i'm posing with murals and doors, etc. hmmmm...interesting!
@summerfield I'd love it if you joined us. I think this challenge is perfect for stretching us all out of our comfort zone. I'll help us appreciate ourselves and help us crank up the creativity knob.
@halkia Based on your profile pic, you must join us. This is an ideal challenge for camera shy photogs. I think alot of us will learn to appreciate ourselves more after this project. Can't wait to see what you do.
Oh my, I hate photos of me! I might try to do it for a week. May is when the bugs and flowers will return to Michigan so I am waiting very impatiently for that to happen and will be so excited to be able to get some bug and flower shots again.
Cool photo - great start. I didn't find it under the tag of "May Challenge SP" though. You can put the whole thing in quotes in your tag line so it shows up. :)
Great challenge...It is hard because I hate photos of me...but i will try. As you say Atalitude maby I will learn to appreciate myself more afther this.
I don't know if I'll make it 30 days BUT I hate to quit things after I start them. My not wanting to be a quitter might keep me going. My husband said he's sad that he doesn't have any photos of me so that's a good reason to try.
I'm not sure... I did two accidentally selfies the first two days this month, but I'm not sure if I would continue. I only have one album and I think it's hard to keep me away from flowers and bugs for a month. But this is me so far:
Sorry, it's me again. Just read that I can still participate - yeah! So, here's mine for today. Maybe tomorrow I'll actually show my face... But I have a month now to lose my shyness so I'm optimistic you will see my face at some point.
This is hard!!! I struggle with looking at myself (wishing I was thinner and younger) AND I can't seem to get a good focus on the camera. I can't focus my camera and be the subject at the same time. UGH! I guess if I make it a full month I might end up gaining a lot of camera skills and maybe even learn to like myself more (or like to look at myself more) . Day 2 is done!
Day two.... why are we so hard on ourselves? I must have take 40+ photos today and yikes! didnt like any of them. Love this one because I love her, my little Izzy Monkey.
I know I'm starting a day late - I had to gather up courage to go through with it. Realizing this isn't quite a self portrait, I'm on my way to including my upper half soon. Still camera shy, but I'll get there.
@brizmako - this is hilarious. I do have a few portraits in my project but I hate all of them and there is no way I was going to commit to a month! I'd like to see you come up with 30 of your dear self!!
Still hard for me to be in front of the camera; hence, only my hands and the anthology I co-edited are in focus. Not my favorite selfie. Not my most hated selfie.
@atalitude Thanks, I am so glad I joined, I'm having so much fun :)
Quite a few people I follow have joined the challenge as well and it's great to see what they come up with too.
@sdpace It's all good :) great way to stay connected and motivated. My pictures are starting to suck though. This is way harder than photographing other people, places and things. Here's mine for today:
@annamaker Thank you Anna Mae! So glad that you like it. My mind was apsent and i was bit tired in that moment. I am glad that I have conveyed these sentiments in the photo.
My final self portrait for my My One Week challenge. And, the eyes have it. :-) During the last seven days, I learned that I prefer to be behind the camera, and that self portraits can be difficult. All in all I'm glad I pushed myself to do something that I would not normally do.
After a week of taking self portraits, I felt free to be myself in front of the camera. I placed my P&S on a tripod, set the timer, and twirled in front of the camera until I was dizzy and laughing.
@halkia Thanks for your comments. I had the best time shoting that sequence. It actually made me feel alive and in the moment. Doing self portraits has freed me not only in taking photographs where I am in front of the camera, but, also, doing self portraits has freed my voice in my writing and made me feel compassion for the people I photograph. :-)
I really like your Day 8 selfie. If you don't mind, I'm going to use that idea to capture my maternal great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, and myself.
awesome challenge! wish I would have found it sooner! maybe I can do a week long challenge...anyway, here are two recent ones from the DPS Self-Portrait challenge:
Something a bit more serious as I received serious news yesterday. The selfie challenge helped me to deal with it and for some reason even comforted me a bit:
We're two weeks in now (at least the people who started May 1).
How's everyone holding up with the challenge?
I've been having so much fun with this challenge but I do find it time consuming to run two albums at once! I work and I have two toddlers running around at home so it's difficult to find the opportunity to set up the shots I would like to do...
@halkia I'm pretty much only using my selfies shots for my photos of the day. So, only one album to keep up with. Somedays I go crazy and have to take pictures of something other than myself and then I put them in my 2nd album. But other than that I suppose I'm holding up fine. Still getting new ideas every day. I love looking at everyones selfies. This has been a pretty fun challenge so far despite my complaining.
I'm enjoying this a lot more than I thought. TBH I thought I'd back out after a few days. Some days my imagination goes a little nuts and then over the next few days I'm grounded again.
sorry, nother shadow shot...not much chance today for anything else...was too busy watching the kids in the sea to be able to spend much time working out camera placement for an SP.
@atalitude just realised this challenge ends soon. Thank you for posting it, I've enjoyed it more than I ever thought I would. I've learned so much through doing it, had a lot of fun trying to get my camera in the right place- involves sellotape, chairs and toy cars lol. (no tripod).
Starting to wonder if I'll have as much fun with non sp shots....I have always been a spontaneous shot person and this month has definitely not been that lol. Don't think my kids will sit through retakes......eeek. lol.
@atalitude: I feel the same as @voodoochild - I'm immensely thankful I joined this challenge - it's been of the most fun and inspiring months I had so far - I learned not to be afraid of my camera anymore and I picked up loads of editing skills so achieve the shots I wanted. Thank you so much!
Here's my latest one:
The challenge has brought me a lot as well but I've reached a stage now that I seem to have lost inspiration. I guess I'm getting tired of my own face :)
@voodoochild You are very welcome, it's quite fun and challenging all the same. I may need to get some of that tap, traveling for business without a tripod is proving to be a bit tough at times. Hence the 6 holes in my calendar (shrug). Seeing everyone's photos has been treat and helps me understand their non-selfie photos a bit better now that personality is coming out in this challenge :)
Congrats to everyone who finished! I missed the last 5 days :( I was out of town and it was rather difficult to do selfies out of the comfort of my own home.
@meggageg Ditto to what Meagan said! Huge congratulations to everyone who participated and even completed all 31 days of this month long selfie journey. It was quote a challenge and ive really enjoyed your amazing photos. Have learned so much from everyone and am very grateful! Onto June gratitude month we go - will be nice to photograph something other than myself for a change.

Yey to new recruits!

Loving how we are all doing so many varied shots, I have lots of inspiration from you guys!
