So I was just looking at some of the members' beautiful black and white photographs, and wondering why I don't shoot in black and white more often. I then decided that I am going to do a black and white photo challenge for myself the month of July. Anyone with me? You don't have to participate everyday, perhaps you could take one black and white photo a week or something, but I'd love to have fellow 365ers participating with me. We could even tag them similar to the June gratitude challenge, perhaps with "Julyb&w"?
funnily enough I was going to start a black and white series for the last 2 weeks of this month starting on Friday, did think about doing July but loads of colourful stuff happens around here then so decided it would be a shame to miss out on all that.
I thought about this today, actually. That's so random. I have some other challenges I want to do first, especially since I love my colorful photos. I'll enjoy looking at yours though!
Yes if this were not my second year doing 365 (well in a few days anyway) I would have a difficult time doing only black and white this time of year. I am not limiting myself to shooting only in black and white, just limiting the ones I post on 365 to black and white :)
@appaloosa05 Seriously I have been thinking about doing a black and white photo shoot of my city so this is going to be a great way of getting it done. I really think that there is something special about black and white photos. looking forward to following your photos to see what you come up with
I would normally say yes, especially since about half my photos are black and white anyway. However, long awaited for color is finally arriving here (in Oregon) so I don't want to miss out!.
I'm completely in - I'm doing lots of b&w anyway. Well, usually I do selective colour with just a bit of colour amidst b&w. If that still counts, I'm in :).
@appaloosa05 Fabulous idea! I think I'll join (but I'll need a reminder on June 30!).
I never went for black and white much but lately I've been very interested in it. I think I will use my extra album for the b&w shots. July is very slow for me at work so I will probably have the time to manage two albums at once :)
I, too, have been trying to do more B&W. I'm not sure I can do an entire month, nor would I want to, but I definitely need to keep this in mind for next month.
Good idea. I'd like to try. Not sure I will be able to do it everyday because with only one album I might want to post something else as well, + July will be a complicated month with the school holiday.
@ddhester There will not be one specific folder for the challenge, rather each person uploads to their regular album and in the tags box puts a common tag (I think for this we'll use "julybw"). That way someone can click on the tag from one photo and be able to see all the photos that are posted for the challenge. Also, I'll probably start a topic that we can put our photos in like the one for the June gratitude challenge. For an example of how this works, check out the June Gratitude topic or search for the tag junegratitude.
And if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. :)
I'm in! I usually post at least one b&w per week, and I try to take at least one per day (it just doesn't usually make the cut), but I love b&w and shooting in b&w.
Just remind me in July- I do try to take them because it gets me to think more about color and vice versa. I like b&w, so this would be a fun challenge. Maybe you could choose a day of the week like b&w Wednesday or something like that. Good idea.
@appaloosa05 I think this is a great idea as I finished my ACB challenge on the 30th of this month. But I think I will do the same as @triplescoop just do black and white weekends that way I can also do my selfie challenge I have set myself for next month.
@appaloosa05 I'm in....probably won't do the whole month in black & white but since it is my favorite mode anyway I am definitely up for a couple shots a week in black & white.
@iandec fair enough, but Megan, who posted this lives in the N.hemisphere, in Detroit MI where it is summer.
It's cold wet and dark here in the UK too, but it's still summer ;) lol
@chewyteeth b&w works very well in summer too because of the severe light, harsh contrasts and long shadows.
I like colour too so that's why I will be doing the b&w challenge in an extra album. A month without colour would definitely not work for me.
I am going to try the black and white challenge. I am not comfortable with B &W, but know I need to try this. I haven't decided if I will do this once or week or more.
@appaloosa05 Megan that tag doen'ts work, I don't think it likes the '&' if you do a search you can eventually find the pics but the tag itself thinks you are looking for 'julyb'... Suggest 'july-blackandwhite' ?
@appaloosa05@iandec : In another discussion about the same thing we decided on "julybw". I don't know where the discussion went though. Are we gonna have a thread for everyone to share their pictures like with the last challenges? That was very nice :).
@jannaellen I started a thread for everyone to share photos, but I put it in the general discussions as I couldn't remember where this one had been. I should probably put it in themes and competitions as that makes more sense.
@triciaanddazzle That's funny that you thought of it too. :)

@jannaellen selective color is fine with me! I wish my camera did that.
And if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. :)
