Believe it or not, February is one week away- yes, ONE week away!! And that means it's time for another month to hone your black and white skills, try it out for the first time, or stretch your creative muscles in a different way. This year I've designed the weeks around subject matter where the subject is the focus, unlike past years where we concentrated on technique. And of course- it's all in black and white- with one exception.
Flash of Red February gets its name from the one day mid-month when take just a little break from the black and white and insert a little pop of red into the shot. This use of selective coloring is optional- some don't like it and don't insert it; some prefer a different color, but red really jumps out the most. For those of you who've never tried selective coloring before, don't worry, I will give you a link with easy to follow instructions using a free on-line site if you don' have a photo processing program. February 14th is the traditional day to flash that red, but some like the red to be more centered in the month. This year it would be on the 15th if you so choose.
If you'd like to get a weekly reminder of what's coming next put your @tag name in the comment section below and I will let you know before the week starts what's coming next. We'll start the month out with Circles as our subject. I'm looking forward to browsing your photos each day, but apologize up front for not being able to comment on them all.
More details about the subjects and all things "Flashy" coming up this weekend to get you prepped for the month ahead!
I, for one, appreciate all you do to keep this going every year Ann. The inspiration provided and lessons learned are invauluable thanks to your tutelage
I'm definitely in Ann. I love this challenge an am looking forward to getting back into the swing of things and Flash of Red is a perfect way. Thank you for hosting it once again.
Thanks to all the enthusiastic responses! I look forward to seeing all your pictures. I've got a busy weekend ahead but I plan on getting the first prompt up on Monday- stay tuned!
@koalagardens Each week will have a subject (such as circles for the first 5 days) rather than a technique or compositional "theme" (such as high-key or rule of thirds). You will determine how to shoot them- the only requirement (of course!) is that they are in black and white. I'll post something each week with a few examples to spark the creative juices. With the demands of my job, I'm not able to do as much research as I have in the past, but I'll have some pertinent info each week as well.
@olivetreeann no it's all good, I just have to get my thinking cap on - circles is so different for me, so I'm really happy to have a few days to think it out
thanks for organising this again, it is my favourite month theme of all!
@olivetreeann I was wondering if you have thought of the rest of the themes yet as I thought I could match them with the words for February....no worries if you haven't :) I won't be putting it together until Monday or Tuesday night :)
Hi Ann. I’m very slack on these things but appreciate the effort you and everyone puts in. I’ve already uploaded “ordinary” photos but I’ll go back and change them!!!? @johnfalconer
@johnfalconer No problem John- if want to change them feel free- or keep them the same- it's really up to you and how you want your calendar to look at the end of the month.
I guess I didn't see your post to let you know who was interested in the FoR Challenge. I going through Wendy's weekly S**t List and saw your post. I apologize for for thinking that you forgot my name.
@skipt07 No problem Skip! Although I keep the tags from the previous year, I don't usually repeat the list so it was a fair assumption. You're on there now, so from here on it you should be notified when something is posted.
Thank you both!
Thank you Ann!
