The first day of October found me leaving the Autumn beauty of our wooded hillside behind and setting off for a day in the city! I couldn’t resist a walk in Point State Park, uniquely located at the confluence of the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio Rivers.
The iconic Point State Park Fountain (viewed here beyond the fence surrounding the historic Fort Pitt Block House) spurts 150’ into the air and is surrounded by 3 fanned water features referred to as “peacock tails" (very appropriate considering their shape).
The park was designed using wildlife friendly native plants, many of which are currently producing colorful fruits (like the Mountain Ash berries in the foreground here); and a chubby Fox Squirrel was taking full advantage. Happy October, everyone!
I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers. It would be terrible if we just skipped from September to November, wouldn’t it? - L. M. Montgomery, “Anne of Green Gables”
Update: In March 2016, I photographed Point State Park and the confluence of our three rivers from atop a nearby hill, and you can see the image at: http://365project.org/janetb/365/2016-03-05
@cejaanderson Thank you, Jane! I will definitely post more of my visit. I sure do love our home on the wooded hillside, but it's fun to visit the city from time to time just to enjoy the rich history and beauty there!
@pej Thanks, Paul! Oh, I'll bet Jersey Boys was fabulous! My daughter and I attend quite a few shows at the Bendum each year. The Cultural District is really quite special!
Like the way you composed this with the black wrought iron fencing pointing out the lovely fountain. I remember Fort Pitt from my Pittsburgh days - such a pretty area down there.
@milaniet Thanks, Milanie! I had such fun on my walk around Point State Park today. Some of the trees have gotten quite big, creating cozy paths to the fountain. What a treasure in the heart of the city!
