Well - best laid plans and all that. I saw that Newmarket had a set of painted horses on its streets when I went through on Sunday but I decided to leave them for another day as I already had the owl shot. So I dragged Monty over there today on a promise of a run on The Gallops (after the horses have finished!) Unfortunately we arrived in town in time for a downpour and altogether uninspiring skies. Also I discovered that to get several of the horses from the best angle you have to station yourself in the middle of a very busy intersection which didn't seem like a great idea. This horse was on a Rock & Roll theme I think but was actually covered in revolutionary pics including Che Guavara. As far as I know there's never been a revolution in Newmarket.
@deens I think they get sold on for charity - London had elephants last year for some reason. I'm not sure the horse artists are quite as well know as the London elephant ones but some were quite good.
These are rather spectacular & very apt for Newmarket ! I like the way you have captured this angle as it shows the colour of the red star & the rest all blends in with the white & black bits ! An unusual subject matter I would have thought for a racing town & rock & roll ???
wow Judith this makes a big impact when you see it. nice horse. not often you see a left wing horse.
thanks for your fave on my fuchsia pic
with regards to EV settings, it's and exposure value compensation setting on most cameras. If the background is bright it can leave your subject exposed wrong, so you increase the EV value (like I did with my fuchsia). If the background is dark then your go with a minus EV value to keep your subject exposed correct http://www.ehow.com/about_5465537_camera-ev.html
photo is great, very different! mostly I loved the story:) i laughed when I read the part about the busy intersection......isn't that the way it goes!?!?!
Great photo and the eye of the horse is very dramatic! I have seen Donkeys and Elephants in DC...I collect some of the miniature painted horses and cows.

and the London elephants were, um, variable - I have photos of some, one with one of our more challenging teenagers riding it
There are two revolutions in Newmarket.
Home Revolution: http://www.homerevolution.co.uk/
and Royston Ffrench who is aiming to be the first black champion jockey! The Independent should know: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/a-ffrench-revolution-in-newmarket-1266902.html
