I've been busy with Governor duties again today so I've had to look close to home for a photo. Our Speckledy Sussex hen, Betty, is broody. She's always fond of the nest box but now she's camping in there all day. I'm not sure whether to feed her or not - I've given her a bit of corn and some grass but I presume she'll go outside when she gets hungry. I feel mean taking the eggs away and she certainly makes it plain she disapproves.
There's always one isn't there ! Funny how one is always broody, we had to give one of ours away to a farm that reared chicks & now she is as happy as Larry hatching eggs to her hearts content ! Cathy has one too that sits all the time !! Apparently according to NZ son #2 the secret to stop it sitting is to cool it down by putting an ice pack under it for a few days !!!
Shes a beauty!
Have just stumbled upon your project from a discussion you commented on earlier and am wondering why I haven't been following you before!!
Such a wonderful shot of your lovely Betty! Knowing nothing about chickens, I have no advice to offer you regarding her care and feeding. I agree with you...she has food and if she's hungry she'll more than likely eat it. :)
