For Winter Health!

Firstly, huge thanks for the lovely response to my teasel picture - you're all fab!! Secondly, sorry for being behind on commenting - it was a bit of a crazy day yesterday. After the kids' various sports events we dashed up to Stafford for a birthday party for Nigel's mum. She isn't very old but has advanced dementia and lives in a nice nursing home. Her older sister Roselea brought a selection of photos to the party including this one taken in the late fifties. Roselea was working as an usherette at the Odean in Stafford at the time and she said they would occasionally have 'promotions' for various odd things. Roselea was a strikingly beautiful girl - real film star looks, it's a shame she's in profile here as she brings a little glamour to Bovril!
Ahh precious old pic!

This is so 'Fifties! Everything about it ... the b&w, and the use of local cinemas for promotions. I love it for the pure nostalgia of the times. I can even hear the ghostly voice of the sapper saying "Just one more" while fumbling in his bag for another flashbulb, having burnt his fingers taking out the first one ... unless he was fortunate enough to have an electronic flash about the size and weight of three house bricks!

So much of the fun has gone out of photography today!

@wordpixman I hadn't realised it was so dangerous!! It's good to see everybody has a tie on - standards have slipped!

What a great vintage photo. How did you go about photographing the photo? And, what exactly is Bovril?

Such a fantastic look at the past. Wonderful classic 50's style. Roselea was a beauty. I hope that you all had a lovely get together for Nigel's mum's birthday.

What a wonderful photo & an amazing idea...fancy having a promotion for Bovril & I presume free tasting !! I wonder how that would go down with today's cinema goers !!! Rosemary is quite glamorous !!

What a great pic, classic!

@barbsmith I just stuck it on my knee and put the camera on auto. I did up the contrast a tiny bit but after reading Arthur's comment I wish I'd left it in its original form, just as the man with the big flash took it! Boril is beef extract, a gooey liquid that you can mix with boiling water to make a 'welcome' drink. Quite nice on a cold winter's day but not very glamorous! Thanks for all of your lovely comments - you've been very diligent with your catch up - after seeing your pics I think you could run an outdoor pursuits class!

@happypat I'm just wondering what the film stars whose photos have been obliterated by the Bovril display would make of it! @peggysirk Apparently she was always with busy with her torch, she had to shine it on couples who were getting a bit too familiar!

@judithg That would be fun . . . perhaps in my next life!

Gorgeous classic old pic - with the old Bovril signs as well - she has a fantastically glamorous name too - could have been a film star with a name like Roselea.
