Felicity the Brave

Many thanks for the lovely comments on Dad's Army - I know nostalgia isn't what it was but it's obviously still popular ;0) I'm feeling a bit guilty because they weren't quite as incompetent as they looked in that photo - they were quite good going in a straight line!
Anyway, when I got to the river with Monty this morning I discovered that the River Festival was on. Needless to say I didn't have my big camera and although photo ops were throwing themselves at me I didn't exactly nail anything. Adam has just told me that this is rubbish but it is one of the 'Little Boats' that went on the Dunkirk evacuation so the subject is special! Built in 1926, she's a little pleasure cruiser and is one of the last 100 'Little Boats' still afloat. I have passed her hundreds of times and never realised that she's been so brave!
Love the colours and processing in this, very authentic and vintage, great stuff!

I beg to differ with Adam...I think this is a delightful shot of the charming 'Felicity'. :)

Amazing history... if the situation should present itself, how about a full image of the "Little Boat." I am forever a tourist and find this very interesting.

@hown I'll see if I took one! I took its back end with its special flag - otherwise there's always another river walk!

Nicely captured.

Great shot love the PoV and story.
That is the only thing my grandad would ever tell me about the war that he was at Dunkirk.

@johnnyfrs Have you been? It's pretty bleak. I went on a day trip from a hotel from Belgium when I was about 10. There was an old boy with his daughter & when it came to setting off he 'lost his passport'. His daughter was devastated but when I watched 'Atonement' I realised that he just couldn't face going back.

Great shot and made more special as she was so brave as were the people who took her out. I remember seeing this in a film/docu and you would get goosebumps.

I haven't yet, maybe one day. I have seen it on documentaries and it does look bleak.

nice one Judith - I've just noticed you have a G1 - how do you find it? That was my previous camera before upgrading!

@sparkle Well I've just realised this is one of 3 pics taken with my proper camera on my cycle ride home from town rather than one of about 40 taken with my P & S earlier so generally it does do a much better job! I like it as it's relatively small to carry around and I like the properties of the 45-200 lens but I can't bring myself to pay £600 for a macro lens or >£300 for a pancake so I feel a bit limited. Also I suspect it's not up to the standard of a nice Canon or Nikon but maybe that's just the user!! I do have a craving for a Canon but maybe I would find it too heavy - how are you getting on with your upgrade?
