I love the beautiful watermill at Lode - still functional for grinding flour apart from the fact that the mill-race off to the left is slowly collapsing. I love the beautiful trees and dappled light and the glimpse of formal gardens across the water. I love that the paths are currently dry and so the walk is usually 'clean' and there are no sheep fields with broken fences. Monty loves going into the woods and chasing squirrels. He does not realise that ponds covered in duck-weed are not solid ground. Monty loves the shallow stream at the end of the walk that contains just enough water to have a drink and cool/wash his feet and ankles. I would love something rather deeper....
Dog for sale. All offers considered :0)
great walk shots and commentary - and yes, my dog (yellow labrador) never learnt that coming back from walks two tone meant either hosing down by the outside tap or a bath. He used to lie in streams just like that. And if you didn't have Monty, would you have as many excuses to go out walking?
@shanne Monty is only a paddler and no amount of coaxing would make him lie down in the stream! He would do better if he remembered his bath phobia - I could have posted some frightening shots of the bathroom. And no - I'd hardly go out walking at all!
@sleepdozer57 I was keeping my distance - my daughter was less than impressed when he shook himself and splattered her face with stinking black spots!!
Oh you would never sell that sweet dog, even if he can be so naughty. He looks so innocent on the left and so proud on the right. I love that peaceful shot on the upper right, especially as I can't hear Monty barking in it ;).
I'll have him !!! Seriously these are lovely photos & you look like you have had a fantastic walk !!! A sign of a good walk when they get really dirty !! Wonderful old mill & the light is stunning...I'm glad you showed us all shots & didn't leave any out !!
@happypat@june I don't know - it looks like I'm sending him up North June!!! I've taken these views every time I've been on this walk this year but I've always ended up posting detail shots. I think the autumn colours set them off better so I'm glad I waited and I'm glad you like them!
My tiny notebook does this piccy no justice..it is like looking through one of them there things we had as kids those telescopes changing patterns with each twist.
oh dear judith, i dread to think what colour your bath water was....looks like monty had a great time on his walk, which at the end of the day is a ll that matters.
It's a great photo montage Judith, Monty looks fantastic sat in your car...glad you have lots of covers in your boot. Ruby is not a good traveller...the journey up to the peak district was not without 'dog incidents' :(
@phil_howcroft It took me quite a while cleaning the bathroom! Monty's great redeeming feature is that he loves the car & falls instantly asleep. I did make sure he got lots of practise as a puppy which poor Ruby may have missed.
I remember going to this place and buying some flour . your pictures a really beautiful. Snowy doesn't like the water thank goodness. Monty looks as though he has had a great time. btw managing so far to stop Snowy from jumping up, he has sharp little claws. Dog free to a good home.
LOL - looks like a great Mill - I should take myself up there some time - love a good mill! let's think about the dog offer...does the car come with it, i wouldn't want to get mine that dirty from Monty's look! superb collage judith
Watch you don't get an offer you cant refuse for that dog......
