Queen's Road essentially runs through the colleges that back on to the river, severing several of them into two parts (generally speaking the other side of the road has gardens and playing fields but there are some college buildings). The land between the back gates of the colleges and the road is known as 'The Backs''. There is a big consultation about to start regarding the magnificent trees along here. The drama they create comes from them all having been planted at the same time but that also means that they are all getting old at the same time. The dilemma is how to plant for future generations without destroying this special area for the present.
I was attempting to photograph the two cyclists coming along the nice curved path through the 'turning trees' when this lot marched in front of me with the arrogance that only those who live here for 24 weeks of the year possess! (I love the students really :0) ). Anyhow it meant I could get a pun in with the title.
Nicely captured Judith. I love reading your comments as it makes me want to travel to your city, but if I dont I feel I kinda know about it anyway. thankyou :)
Great title !!! Love the shadows & those figures striding out against those paler leaves ! I can see the problem of the same age trees all having to be felled at the same time would be a big debating point !!! I suppose too that planting young saplings besides the original might not work as the ground would be full of roots !
I do hope they come up with some good ideas for the future of the trees, and not end up as typical as Stockport council thinks in such matters....arm all gardeners with a chain saw. Nice piccy as they always are....as for me beginning to get the hang of this here tiny note book really missing my big wopper of a desk top...even my chardonnay tells me so...lol...
@tsingtao Good luck with the new kit - drives you mad till it's all working. The council's already been playing fast and loose with it's chainsaws - luckily these are the responsibility of the college gardeners.
The arrogance of youth worked in your favor for this marvelous photo and title. :) I love the long autumnal shadows being cast and the wonderful light through the trees.
The trees are so beautiful hope they find a way of keeping it that way. I like your title, and photo of course . Btw Helens on her way with Snowy it will be good to see him
love the light and shadows here and I love your commentry - my sister was one of those students with her crony friends...used to make me laugh how some of them were really SOOOO arrogant!
The light , the people and the trees (oh and a bicycle make this an instant +FAV)
