Apparently plane trees were chosen for the avenue across Jesus Green because they drop their leaves in a very short space of time and it's less work for park maintenance! They are getting pretty old now and have a touch of some disease or other and the council keeps threatening to chop them down...and keeps meeting major resistance. They are putting on a very bright display this week and I presume it will be all gone by this time next week if the Victorians are correct about the leaves. The Backs are incredibly yellow as well but they are some other sort of tree - shame we don't have more reds around. This photo was so bright that I've toned it down with a bit of 'fancy focus'.
PS Parents of children doing homophones for homework can have plane/plain free of charge :0)
So historic , pretty too & you got your bicycle in there as well Judith, excellent !! You can see right to the end of that avenue...a wonderful perspective !!!! I love the single glowing light !!!
Another great photo, and some interesting facts to go with it!
I may have to make another early morning trip intto Cambridge on the way into work to see what photo opportunities there are (now we've gained an hour of daylight in the morning).
lovely avenue - and I'm not convinced about dropping all at once, our poor street cleaners have been working the avenue here for weeks if not months - it was plane leaves I was kicking around back in early September, and there are still masses left to come down
What a glorious golden glow. Hate to hear these majestic old beauties are in fail mode. I'm sure it will be a sad day when replacement becomes a necessity.
Lovely shot!!! What a pretty allee! Were you laying prone or did you set your camera down? Inquiring minds want to know!! Whatever you did - it was worth it to capture this stately beauty. And is that a person on a BICYCLE?!
Judith this is a classic scene....a tree lined avenue / street shot from a 'bobbed down' position. I notice you managed to get a bicycle in there too. Wonderful colours and textures
@happypat@bpaquette@phil_howcroft Well thank you all very much but I'd like to point out there are TWO bicycles - I've gone off the fancy focus thing - I think I should have kept it sharp and bike-tastic...
Ahh, beautiful Jesus Greene. I absolutely love this shot and I'm glad I found it on the popular page. Otherwise I'd have missed it over the turbulent weekend and what a shame that would have been. Fav!
Really love the scene here Judith - great tones and superb pov - wish I could've taken shots of trees here in Holland as they are great colours...but the taxi wouldn't stop earlier! I nearly flew to Dusseldorf this morning - probably bumped into Nigel in the airport without knowing!

Beautiful shot!
