No sunlight or golden tones this morning. I decided if it was going to be a gloomy day I may as well get out early and do gloom properly. This is Garret Hostel Lane walking towards the river. I used to cycle this way to the lab when I was doing my PhD and was famous (in a very small circle!) for saying that you can really watch the seasons change along this path. I think it's fair to say that winter's coming.
HUGE thanks for all your comments on yesterday's shots. I've been very lucky to have some interesting weather. I thought November was going to be a photo-nightmare but I find on the whole that I'm loving it.
Wonderful moody shot Judith & a perfect title !! Looks even better with the man walking along to give it a bit of character !!! I really like this!! I think the changing seasons are a challenge & would hate to photo wall to wall sunshine each day !!!
Wow Judith you are on a roll with these atmospheric shots, another fave for me! I haven't succeeded yet in leaving the house any earlier than usual in the morning for a photo opportunity!
@judithg I bet! We made it over from Preston for a few gigs on our pocket money - altough I started at Leeds in 84 so swtiched to the Leeds warehouse after that.
@fueast My sister was at Leeds 81-84 but I don't suppose she was cool enough for Leeds Warehouse either. Which school did you go to - I was at Lark Hill and then Newnham College?
@fueast I should have gone there but my mum taught at a Catholic school and the head teacher told her she had to send us to Lark Hill instead!! I loved it despite its eccentricities! My sister did microbiology - she was at Weetwood (?sp?).
@judithg Ah do you know mark Robinson? He was the only friend I had from lostock hall. Might be the same age as you...otherwise known as robbo. Did you ever go to the warehouse in Preston? That's where we hung out. Or clouds on a Friday?
@fueast It's not ringing any bells but then I'm old - and I didn't know many boys being at the convent! Clouds for 6th form discos but I avoided dancing like the plague. Warehouse sounds more like it if it had really amateurish punk bands making an appalling racket - I was where they were!
WOW Judith you've got 15 +Fav's already...that's very impressive...but then it's an impressive picture...I said to Juliette @sparkle that her street shot yesterday was timeless and this one is too.
The blue tones certainly add to the cool / cold feeling and the lead in line of the path is fabulous....in fact you could add any tone you wanted to this to make it work...+16 fav's now...I think this is heading straight to the Popular Page !
@judithg The Warehouse - it was the early 80's when I went although I wasn't old enough to get in... it was more your Joy Division crowd maybe. You should check out the Preston Punks facebook page for old photo's of 80's punks.
This is such a well-composed shot! And I feel exactly the same about autumn! So many things to photograph. It does seem like we are having similar weather again :)
Wonderful atmospheric shot. The lighting on these dull murky days works quite well ,I took a picture easy (for me that is) The cones on the tree were dripping after all the rain.
I'm going to fave this, also. It's inpiration for me, knowing that even on the yuckiest days there's no excuse for not getting out and taking a really good shot. I'm going through a 'low' phase photographically - shame on me for blaming it on the weather! lol
Judith, this is just splendid! I love the way the parting in the trees leads your eye down to the fellow walking. What a composition!
Have to fave it!!!
What a superb shot Judith. You've certainly exploited the gloomy weather to the full. I'd given up in despair!! Three of my best Cambridge photos were taken down Garret Hostel Lane, and it was one in that location that got me started on 365! What is it about that lane?!
@north_ender How funny - I'll look them up - I've found your lovely punt shot! I love Garret Hostel Lane - it changes so much during the year & I have a particular soft spot for the moorhens & their chicks!
and the blue tones against the mist work brilliantly.........A definite fav!

Such an amazing shot!!! Fav for me also!
