Golden Rose by judithg

Golden Rose

Things I've learned from 365: miserable wet day equals nice pavement reflections. Rose Crescent with bargain hunters. @helenmoss took a lovely picture just around the corner from here this time last year and I've had my eye on copying it all month! I've done very badly in the sales, partly because I can't really be bothered and partly because the shelves seem pretty empty. However, I have slightly unexpectedly (as I was looking at an Aurora Borealis trip) booked 4 nights in Marrakech during February Half Term - we can all go and get warm and exotic for the same price as one of us freezing and chewing on reindeer (though Aurora is still on my wish list one day).
Cambridge is lovely, and once again you make it look even more exotic - why would you want to go on holiday?! (haha...)
We were lucky enough to see the A.B. when we were in Iceland (the country, not the shop!) in 2006. I didn't understand cameras at all then so eventually gave up on trying to photograph it, but it's a photo that will always be in my memory!

love the pavement reflection and the street scene surrounding it. Nice capture!

@lluniau Hahaa - shame we can't see it in the shop! One day.... The trouble is that they are really good at the moment so everybody wants to go and the flights are very expensive.

Ah right, I see. Best wait until they become less "fashionable" then! They weren't guaranteed when we were there. We paid something like £35 for a 2 hour coach trip in the dark during which the coach "may" stop to see them (if the were there). It was a bit of a gamble, but I'm soooooo glad we took it!

Cool reflections and great street scene. Why are the streets so quiet? Haven't even checked to see if there is anything in the shops!
December 29th, 2011
awesome composition!!! love the reflection and lighting... were you hand holding or was the camera in a tripod?
December 29th, 2011
This is beautiful! Looks like a picture that belongs in a magazine.
December 29th, 2011
Awesome. Wish the rain here brought reflections like this

Gorgeous warm glow on the ground! A beautiful capture Judith!

I saw the AB last night on Frozen Planet programme & no wonder that holiday is popular, it was stunning ! You me & Juliette all booked holidays in the last couple of days !!!! This picture is a fave , one, because it is so glowing with light , second the wet pavement , & last but not least girls shopping & having a good time !!!

Love the intensity of oranges and sheen of reflection on pavement. Marrakech sounds lovely, but will there be rain, and are there reflections in the souks?
December 29th, 2011
Brilliant reflections and excellent warm light, great shot.
Go see the Aurora Borealis it's amazing, plus you might get to drive a skidoo in the pitch black that is fun, bladdy cold though and reindeer is yummy ;-)

Yes this is wonderful with the browns/reds & gold tones! Absolutely wonderful! I am looking forward to learning more from 365'ers such as you as I further grow & learn.

beautiful judith, it does have a bit of a Dickensian feel to it........I can hear you saying......'Dickensian in 2011...are you mad Phil'....but it does Judith..I think it is the mellow lighting and refelctions :)
December 29th, 2011
I agree with Phil above, It does have the olde english charm to it, wonderful capture. I did not go near the shops, no mun no fun.......Your trip sounds like heaven.
December 29th, 2011
@phil_howcroft I've just been watching 'Great Expectations' - luckily this isn't that sort of Dickensian - though some of the shots in that programme are beautifully framed. See I can't watch telly any more without planning photos...

@carrapeta00 Hand-held - it's not that sharp!
December 29th, 2011
@judithg,

I thought so... but for hand held and that speed is sooo good... well done Judith... really good hands there.

Fantastic pic! I love the colours, reflections and lights!
I've seen an A. B. in the very North of Finland, and ate reindeer, and I don't regret it! It was wonderful. I also don't like cold climates, but the cold there is different from what we have in our countries (up to -20°C was OK for me), so if you have the opportunity to go one day, just go! :-)

You have really taken advantage of the wet reflections. Lovely colours.

Beautiful tones and reflections! That vacation sounds awesome!
December 30th, 2011
It's a bright and cheery shot, not rainy and dull at all. Good reflections and lots of things to see.
December 30th, 2011
stunning shot and beautiful golden reflections

I used to see AB when I was a kid at the cottage (central Ontario, Canada). You have to see it in person! Then, there was a freak show of it this last October in Toronto - see pics here: http://www.citytv.com/toronto/citynews/weather/article/163344--aurora-borealis-spotted-around-golden-horseshoe

fabulous, love the gold color.
isn't it fun to have vacation time planned and february isn't all that far off!
December 30th, 2011
I've seen the AB twice in my life - and it is so spectacular and so ominous!!! Totally unexpected both times and terrifying. But beautifully so. I love the inviting warmth of the shop windows in your pic.
December 30th, 2011
Love the lighting and reflections
December 30th, 2011

December 30th, 2011
I love the tones in this. Just beautiful.
December 30th, 2011
Awesome colouring and reflections - glad you kept the people in the distance so you could show off the patterns in the foreground. Nice one.
December 30th, 2011
Northern Lights would be amazing but would probably mean waiting around outside in the cold? i think Morocco was a good choice!
