I was wandering cold and damp around the Gog Magogs this morning trying to take drippy shot of berries and decided to try my P&S which is better at macro stuff. I had forgotten that I had turned on the flash in a bid to take slugs earlier in the week and after the first shot I was going to turn it off and delete the shot when I realised that it had revealed a ladybird tucked up amongst the wet berries. Well obviously thoughts turned immediately to @cherrill's ladybird clusters and when I started looking they were everywhere! This little lot were taken using my zoom lens with the flash on which was quite a bit softer in its effect - still a nightmare to focus as the branch was wafting in the wind. And to cap it all the sun was out by mid morning.... I had a chat with a nice man about the incompatibility of dog and photography and he told me that they are ripping up great tracts of trees (old and newly established) up there because there are archaeological remains underneath. They aren't going to excavate but I suppose it's to avoid root damage - shame though.
Apologies for the shoddy commenting last night - I was out at Governors....I'll try and do better in between navigating homework crises as well....
At first I thought these were red berries among the dark ones ;). Ladybugs seem to be coming back to life everywhere. I hope they go back to their safe places soon as winter is just about to start (says the forecast). Great detail!
Couldn't see these were ladybirds to start & like everyone else thought they were red berries. I saw in the Mail a few weeks ago a picture with lots of ladybirds covered in icicles & apparently they can live through very low temperatures. You have everything in this shot, wild life, nature & a big fat drop !!!! Bad news re trees but they might find something interesting I suppose.
Now I know why ladybirds ar drawn with single spots on their wings. Ours have many small spots or a zig zag set of stripes. Now you've set me a challenge...find some ladybirds to post.
great title Judith for a superb image........love the new profile pic too ...it's guaranteed to get you a whole load of new followers :) ....I don't know how you cope with 500+
Great shot Judith - superb focus...love the title - I've not seen any anywhere (mind you, there was one one on the ceiling light in the train today...I'm going out tomorrow to find my own cluster!!
this is nice, a bonus ladybird vibes
