Morning at Downing

Very foggy this morning - almost too foggy for photos. Adam wasn't terribly surprised that I offered to take him school with camera in hand! I've never photographed Downing College and it's really very elegant. Not as old as most, founded in 1800, is has lovely neoclassical buildings (of various ages but all the same style) built around large lawns. I passed over a misty bike shot for this one so I hope you like it!
wow! great shot fav

3 faves already at this time of the morning Judith ...you must be in good form !!! We had fog this morning & I went out with my camera but everything was too far away, I needed some buildings nearby to peer at !! This is magnificent & what I would hope to be aiming for but will keep trying !
Love that figure in there too just gives the photo a central POV !! Lovely.

Beautiful! The fog is perfect for this shot, as is the figure. The buildings frame it lovely.

I think it's gorgeous. Love the inclusion of a figure walking into the mist and those elegant columns.

Fav! A morning shrouded in mystery!
posted March 15th, 2012
Ha ha the fog suits you - or rather Cambridge (+ a bit of Orton?). Very cool anyway. You must be praying for more bad weather. Bright sun is so boring.
posted March 15th, 2012
This is fantastic, absolutely breathtaking!! Wonderful architecture, and a mysterious mood. Isn't fog just a wonderful thing for photographers? You did a really great job here, and I'm pretty sure we'll see this in the Top 20 this week! ;-) Love it!!!
posted March 15th, 2012
..oh, and may I ask which lens you used for this? The kit lens the 600d came with? Or a high-end one? I'm so impressed with the clarity of this!
posted March 15th, 2012
Mystical and beautiful! Fantastic shot!!
posted March 15th, 2012
The tones in this are just beautiful.
posted March 15th, 2012
@fueast Bit or Orton for brightness rather than bloom and a touch of cross process for colour. Actually I think I've overdone it a bit. Oh and I cloned out a litter bin by the girl!
posted March 15th, 2012
@shadowdancer thanks very much. Yes the kit lens. I'm pleased with it's performance & it was sharper before I processed it.
posted March 15th, 2012
Fav - love the mood here with the lone person walking off into the mist! And I love the processing (but then I am a cross processing addict...)
posted March 15th, 2012
@judithg : Now that is really impressive - the kit lens! And I don't mind the "lack" of sharpness at all, 'cause it is still clear, and the processing added a worderfully soft, smooth and almost silky feel to the structures of the buildings without "washing" the details away. Again.. an awesome job!

I wish we got fog like that... fog enhances photos

I feel like I am there too! Booking a trip real soon! LOL! This is a fabulous shot, Judith! Definitely a fav!
posted March 15th, 2012
For me, the silhouette of the man/woman 'makes' this shot. It was very cold this morning, I hope you didn't have to wait long for him to walk into your shot!!
posted March 15th, 2012
This shot, with the trees from a few days back; they are all so beautiful.

posted March 15th, 2012
@cgould Thanks Celia - a lot of it's in the processing - which I think I've overdone a bit here but it's nice that people still appreciate it!
