Rachel and I took Monty over to Granchester Meadows for a run around before we picked Adam up from hockey camp. There was a noisy group with a very nice looking picnic moored at the Meadows. To be honest they should have made the effort to go all the way to Granchester as it's much more scenic (but the noise suggested that inroads had already been made into the alcoholic part of the picnic!) Rachel says that for a full boat to be chauffeured to Granchester the fee is £240. That's not bad for 12 people as it takes 4 hours to go there and back, the river is deep in places and it's hard work for one punter. It's quite a different trip from the college tour and is lovely on a sunny day.
The film effect frame is from Picmonkey.
Well they look more like lonely punts than party punts but I think I prefer that look. Like your processing. Am just starting to check out picmonkey - I suppose at some point they might want money for using it...
Hope they let the chauffeur join the party or does he have a kip under a hedge somewhere !!! The sepia gives an old fashioned look to the whole photo although it doesn't sound like an old fashioned outing !!!! They can't go through any locks with a punt can they Judith ?
@happypat I suppose they could go through a lock but they don't to get to Granchester. They go up over the rollers which featured a couple of weeks ago and then they have to navigate some very low bridges, the naked swimming club (!) and then it's out into the countryside. Very pretty but far enough to get more than tipsy on a summer's day even if you stop for tea and scones at the Tea Gardens. Nigel famously got the punt back down the rollers after a lab party, forgot he was on a boat and stepped straight into the river - caused a fair bit of amusement!
@judithg Oh dear Nigel , I bet they have never let you forget that little episode !!! I remember the rollers & all that sounds quite difficult to negotiate, there must be more to punting than meets the eye !!! Rachel will be an expert this season !!!
I am sure on the other side of the bushes there is a picnic with ladies in their finery and bustles and feathery hats and men with large moustaches and small children playing hoops.
