Actually Our Lady and the English Martyrs but this church is known to everybody in Cambridge simply as 'The Catholic Church". As the birthplace of the English Reformation there are very few Catholic churches in Cambridge and a statement was being made with this one as it's massive (this photo starts half way up the building) and has the tallest tower in Cambridge. I've photographed it from close up partly for the drama and partly because it's on a busy intersection and a lot of road clutter intrudes.
I took this yesterday - I've been busy working today and the sore-shoulder-induced lack of sleep is beginning to take its toll. So MANY thanks for the lovely comments and faves on yesterday's pic (which is the Dept for Study of Human Evolution) - it's always exciting to find somewhere new and I'm delighted with the response, and sorry for the shabby commenting - I'll get it together soon!
Most impressive building & taken from that angle you can see all the turrets, spires & fancy carvings clearly against the sky !! Is it as ornamental inside I wonder !! Rather stunning I think !! So sorry your shoulder not a lot better , it must be very wearing constant pain like that & do hope you get some relief soon !! Don't worry about commenting Judith...you rest up !!
Love the processing. It really gives a proper aura to the Gothic (neo-Gothic? Gothic revival?) architecture. Excellent POV, even if not entirely by choice.
Wow - this is so ominous and foreboding looking...I expect to see a bolt of lightning and some bats flying about, and maybe a darkened face in the window. Maybe it's just the processing. Cool picture!
this looks amazing - great POV and superb processing. looks quite imposing here! Sorry your shoulder is getting you down, I'm well behind on commenting and finding time to shoot is nigh on impossible at the moment!
Perfect dramatic editing for this incredible structure...it gives it a complete Gothic look and feel. Fabulous! I hope that shoulder starts to come around for you, Judith. It takes those nasty joint injuries f-o-r-e-v-e-r to heal up properly. Hang in there!
Thanks for this photo - I've been past it so many times and never really looked at it - partly as you say it's in a busy place. I will look properly next time because your photo has made me want to!
stunning judith, i cannot believe only one person has faved this...i'm going to double that to 'two faves'.
The post processing and gentle bit of sepia toning really add impact and drama. The converging verticals give the church an even more dramatic and spooky atmosphere
I hope your shoulder is better and you get more rest!
