You could almost have believed that it was summertime this morning. Except that it wasn't very warm. I went out with a mission to take the lovely cows in the cow parsley at King's but ended up side-tracked by a swan. This is King's College from The Backs - I've never seen swans on the little rivulet thing before but they looked as though they were enjoying it.
Clare College was being evacuated as I took this due to a bomb hoax. There was another one at the university yesterday and it seems to be a national campaign as Durham and Bristol have also been targeted. Of course it's right at the peak of the revision season and being only 11.30 am quite a lot of students were still in pyjamas. Not realising that they would be evacuated completely out of the college grounds several looked as if they were wishing they'd brought coats as they headed towards coffee shops clutching their revision notes. Most, it has to be said, appeared to welcome the enforced break but I imagine the novelty will rapidly wear off if it carries on for too long.
@fueast Yeah - it's always a worry that they will do loads of hoaxes and then the real thing when everybody is feeling complacent. I nearly remonstrated with a student who was laughing that the 'old lady' porters at his college would be useless while the male porters at other colleges would have the situation in hand. Just as I was gasping in outrage he mentioned (correctly) that most of the men are ex-military and I had to concede that they might have an advantage. Meanwhile I'd been distracted from pyjama shots @rich57
i love the layers in this photo judith ...stream , swan, fields, building, sky. The composition it top class especially with the side trees adding a frame for the building....love your line too "only 11.30 am quite a lot of students were still in pyjamas"....bless !!
This is a really lovely shot, I can quite understand why the swan prompted you to take it, it completes it somehow! Quite a bit in the paper today about Oxford students breakfasting in their pjs!
Beautiful composition Judith. Poor students - I hadn't heard anything on the news about these hoaxes but I'm just glad Nottingham hasn't been affected as my grandaughter is studying there
Well it's best revising in Pj's much more comfortable & that would have been a great capture ..you might have more chances of a photo if the silly fools carry on with the hoax bomb thing. Tell me that isn't a cow sitting on the lawn at Kings College ! The swan is ducking out of sight away from all the hooha !!! Beautiful serene picture but sounds like the swan all paddling like mad below the surface !!!
@happypat Hahaa! I think that's a ride on mower but I did get a nice photo of the cows - they were in the wrong place but came over to see Monty. It will feature shortly!
Pyjamas at 11.30pm, I wish! Gorgeous scene, from this I can almost believe you about summer (although I know differently not living that far away from Cambridge!)
This is like an oil painting. It is awful about the bomb hoax's, it is a terrifying experience as both our counties know too well. I hope it stops and those people caught.
beautiful shot - I was evacuated from my hotel this morning (it happens everytime I stay here)...all down to burnt toast! Still, seeing firemen in your PJ's at 6am adds to the day's excitement!
I saw Wuthering Heights on dvd the other day, and this really reminds me of Thrushcross Grange. :-)
Hope the stupid hoax was a one off.
