My iPhone camera didn't cope with the challenging lighting conditions today (or the fact that I kept putting my finger over the lens..) so I've fallen back on a shot that I went in search of when I was taking pumpkins at Christ's. Charles Darwin was a student at Christ's and they have a small but interesting Darwin garden with a range of relevant exotic plants and this statue created by another 'old boy', Anthony Smith in 2009. It looks good from different angles but I've plumped for a rather intense straight on look. Nice to remember that he was once young and eager.
On a sad note the pianos have gone, but I thought you might enjoy this one which I didn't manage to photograph. The player might be quite good when he grows up ;0) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWC69SDTQso
Three good things:
1. Adam has realised that Monty goes upstairs and lies on the landing when the fireworks are going off and doesn't bark. He's not allowed upstairs but I'm pretending I don't know he's there - better than woofing for hours!
2. Adam's new specs ready!
3. Pesto
Love the direct look, it's very expressive. Nice framing to tone in with the shot. Thank you for sharing the piano video with us, he was totally immersed in his playing, he was amazing. Hope Monty isn't too upset
tonight.
The youtube clip is amazing, what a talented boy! did you record it? The comments underneath the clip is the one reason I really hate youtube and don't like William going on it :( Like the Darwin shot, quite an intense look!
Oh a sweet boy, not often you see a statue for someone as young as this! He grew into a legend so good to see him as a boy. Yes pretend you haven't seem Monty!!! Pesto I love!
@melaniesavage No not me - haven't read the comments since this morning - not going to now! He's got a clip of his very little sister playing grade 5 stuff on one of the others...
Interesting. I always imagined him as being fatter and with a beard! Poor doggies. Just got back in and am glad that poppy is relaxed enough to beg for cheese.
That you-tube clip was wonderful, what an amazing pianist for one so young. I forgot to look for the pianos last Tuesday but we saw some Zimbabwean musicians who were ace. My granddaughter loved dancing to them. Love this shot too - you always tell such a fascinating story.
So interesting to see a likeness in his youth, rarely seen. I love the angle you have chosen here, it looks as if he is about to stand up and greet you.
I wonder if the young Charles had any idea he would evolve into such a controversial scholar. Such a fabulous piece of artwork.
Such an amazing musical prodigy on YouTube. So, between Darwin, the artist that created the statue, and the young pianist, I am left to consider "what am I doing with my time on the planet". :)
I'm a big Darwin fan and I really like how you framed this picture, so I went ahead and fav'd it ;). Great, now I'm thinking of fudge cake (from yesterday's good things) AND pesto...
So glad Monty has found his 'safe place'. :)
tonight.
