I took Monty for a walk along the towpath this morning but boy does he dislike that route. He spends half his time with his nose stuck in the grass on the bank and the other half digging his heels in and refusing to move. He doesn't look happy until I give up and turn round. I don't know what's wrong with it - there are ducks to chase and horses to bark at and I like it because the path is a good bet when the weather's bad. I think maybe he knows it's a 'no hoop' route. So sadly we didn't get far and this photo of a house across the river in Fen Ditton is all I've managed. I have photographed it several times before, the trees which have lost their leaves are flowering cherry and it always looks pretty in different ways, but it's never made it on to 365 until desperation has set it! Sixth Form Open Evening tonight - how did he get so old?? I'm trying to keep up and comment on everybody's pics but apologies if it takes me a day or two.
Three good things:
1.The cat hasn't sneezed today (in my presence)
2. Lovely comments on my recent photos - thank you.
3. My reluctant reader told me he was enjoying his book and didn't want to stop - made my morning!
That's a wonderful encouraging comment from your reluctant reader - you will probably have changed his life. Wonder why Monty doesn't like the towpath route - puzzling - maybe he likes it too much if there are lots of lovely smells?! Tranquil shot of the lovely house.
This the place for me - except it may flood? I like the dark edges. I was listening to a programme on radio 4 this morning about the life of Alistair Cooke. It struck me that you'd be the ideal person to do a weekly 'letter from Cambridge' like his 'letter from America',
@busylady Oooh - thank you Judith! I'd love a little local radio spot - I'd have to pre-write it or they would't shut me up! I used to listen to Alastair Cooke when I was very young - what he was saying probably didn't impact but how he said it did.
I know what you mean about your dog preferring other walks. Alvin decided to be headstrong this evening and get his way after I decided where we were going this morning ;) Democratic... Very nice photo by the way. I love the very traditional feel to it.
@busylady@wordpixman Just pondering on the flood business - the river has been very high but I've never seen these houses flood even though the boat houses do further upstream. There's a rather nice place next door that's set further back and up a hill - that would be my personal choice!!
@fueast Can't imagine what the insurance is like - fire risk and flood risk! They have a team of gardeners - I don't think it's a choice between upkeep and dinner...
Really a lovely spot and gorgeous house. Love the Monty story. Reminds me of my own dog, Chloe, who had a mind of her own and nobody could make her go where she didn't feel like going. She would have a defiant look in her eyes and you'd have to cave in. Obstinate pooch.
Nice composition and view of lovely house and autumn garden. Dogs are strange about some places. Our Jack Russell would not walk the 10 yds at the bottom of the road before the field. He always wanted to cross over and cross back, couldn't see why at all. Totally identify your feeling on the reader!
I really love this shot - it reminds me of the home I grew up in which was a thatched cottage and it was oh sooooooo cosy! Funnily the cottage that my grandfather wanted to buy which is situated on the banks of the River Ouse has recently been up for sale but my Mum wouldn't let him buy it as it used to get flooded! This one although near to the river is probably quite safe but I'm sure the outlook is fabulous whatever the season. Great shot Judith
I was really impressed with Fen Ditton - what a cute little village. This shows the beauty of the place really well. I cannot believe Monty doesn't like this route but I guess for him hoops are more important than beautiful views... How wonderful that you got a boy to enjoy reading, must be so rewarding!
Yipee on the reluctant reader! Fantastic "desperation shot"! How did he get so old? Aw, that is always the question, where did all the time go, it went by to fast.
Lovely house, I bet it is fab in the summer, first thing I thought when you said Monty won't walk it that it is haunted???? LOL and I agree on the radio slot, I think you are a great story teller.
