Played beautifully by the Salvation Army Band at the War Memorial this morning. I took a few shots but had to keep moving so the dog didn't bark and I had to squeeze past people in order to keep moving and I wasn't feeling at all respectful in the end. My photos are deservedly blurry as a result!! So as promised a collage from Tempsford on Thursday. See http://365project.org/judithg/365/2012-11-09 for details.
Three good things:
1. A minute's respectful silence for the hockey practice boys at least even if I was twitching nervously at the dog.
2. A lovely sunny morning with some beautiful autumn colours.
3. Off to look at lenses for my birthday :0)
One of my favourite hymns. A very tasteful collage. We looked at the website for the barn at Tempsford but realised that we have to make contact before we can visit. Maybe another day.
@busylady Well it depends how you feel about it - you pass it on a public footpath and there are no doors on the barn to you can just wander in. I feel that we don't touch anything or leave anything (apart from respect and admiration) so I don't feel bad about going in. I will probably knock off an e-mail before I take my friend who's a land lawyer so she isn't uncomfortable but I can't see that they won't give permission - we aren't hooligans!
Sean O' Neill has been amazingly good about recommending lenses, i wanted a telephoto/zoom he suggested a Sigma and then maybe a wide angle as they are not so expensive as Nikon........and then I'm thinking oooooooooo maybe a nifty fifty which ,.if you reverse doubles as a macro (ish)I'll be interested heavens they are soooooooooo expensive!!
That is such a beautiful display of very personal mementoes & I love the row of little crosses & photos attached. Must have been an awe inspiring atmosphere in there on Thursday...I love the simplicity of the whole place.
Will watch with interest the lens you pick & the results!!
@fannyb They are rather scary price wise but in the end I went for a straight forward basic Canon 55-250 - autofocus and image stabilisation and seems to have decent reviews - my camera equipment gets fairly bashed about so I don't want to be responsible for too much lens around my neck - I am likely to bend over and bash it on the floor!! And anyway the big expensive ones seem to need a tripod - I used to enjoy my old telephoto (which won't it this camera) for sports shots and just getting a different view on things around town - it was a good fast lens so I hope this one works OK - I don't expect perfection when I'm zooming in miles but I need it to react.
Meant to message you to say happy birthday for the other day! 55-250mm sounds like a good'un, my biggest is 135mm which is just lacking for sports! I managed to catch rememberence service on TV - like to pay my respects even if from afar! Great collage
judith a poignant and very appropriate montage.....lens for DSLR's are soooooooo expensive.............if you want a nice prime lens the Canon 50mm F1.8 lens is brilliant for portraits and low light photography (change from £100 too)......55-250 will be a good lens, although with zooms you lose a few f stops as you get longer. Enjoy your new lens :)....tell all your 365 friends when you shoot with it so we can see the results :)
You know about so many brilliant places I've never heard about. I love this collage. I had my respectful moment stolen from me by a man at the gym who ignored the fact that everyone else was standing in silence and carried on working out with his mp3 blaring. He also ignored my glares for about 1.5 minutes until I was so annoyed I told him to be quiet and have some respect. Embarrassment from teens (mine) and gratitude from everyone else.
Will watch with interest the lens you pick & the results!!
