Cutting through Clare by judithg

Cutting through Clare

I was distinctly underwhelmed at having to go out in the freezing fog this morning to make sure Adam made his exam on time especially as I sat in traffic on the way home watching the fog dissipate and, with it, photo ops. However I parked up and took my camera through King's College which is like Fort Knox during the day but is a free for all for 'pedestrian commuters' in the morning. Normally I just go up to the river and turn round but I'd had to put 50p in the meter so I thought I may as well get my money's worth and I carried on through the College and into town where, furnished with a takeaway decaf cappuccino, I felt decidedly more cheery. I headed back to the car via Clare College (I know @katharinehubbard goes that way so I thought they would let 'commuters' through as well). It's quite unusual in allowing bikes so far into the premises - this gate leads out to the bridge over the river at the back of the College.
Three good things:
1. A fantastic number of Favs on my snowy photos
2. I'm tucked up indoors for the night and intend staying warm
3. Lemsip Max
Lovely peek thro. Nice that the gate was half shut showing it's lines and emphasising the arch.

beautiful soft tones!

I really like the perspective through the gate, and the colour in the beech hedge disappearing into the fog adds mystery.

Am liking that gnarly tree trying to make its way into your shot. Was freezing fog here this morning. Love it.
January 16th, 2013
Love this... and of course, you found a bike!
January 16th, 2013
Bike goes well with the gate.

Agreed @fueast. Almost like it's jealous of the gates symmetry and wants to be a part of it. Love the shot.

Like the tree reaching its claws out to be noticed. Lovely composition. Love the open gate and the leading line and of course the fog. Nice one. You must be feeling better

Like the light through the arch. You are so lucky, Cambridge is such a beautiful and great place for taking pics. My son Emmanuel has successfully been accepted to participate in a shadowing scheme at the Uni, in Feb, so weather prevailing, when I take him,I have an ultimate excuse to go to Cambridge and shoot pic's to my hearts delight!!!

Another marvellous photograph , and you have even managed to get a bike in the shot, hope your clod gets better soon x
January 16th, 2013

Your bicycle shots are always amazing...as is the old world grandeur of Cambridge...a totally winning combo for composition!
I had to google Lemsip Max...is that for you or Adam? Hoping that the Lemsip user is feeling much better very soon!

@peggysirk Well it could have been either of us but they didn't agree with him so he stuck to straight paracetomol (Tylenol??) I wondered if I should take my germs into school to do reading today but all the kids sound the same!
January 17th, 2013

January 17th, 2013

I would say as a Clare alumnus I'd have a higher than average degree of access, but now I'm at Churchill I'm not sure I carry anything on me to prove my rights - oops! Haven't ever been questioned though so think it's an academic question :) Nice shot though - I decided on the Trinity cut through instead this morning

nice and atmospheric judith....is this the same location where you did a contre jour shot with some silhouetted people (one in a bowler hat i think) ...super light
January 17th, 2013

Hi Judith - nice to see you again. You know if I saw this in an art gallery I'd say "that's Judith." Signature image -- so very beautiful and simple - and a bike. Love it
