Crown Imperial by judithg

Crown Imperial

The highways department have planted up our very un-exotic roundabout with rather splendid Crown Imperial lilies. We used to have a lovely one in the garden until we built our extension on it. I seem to remember that they disappear after they've flowered so you can't tell where they are. Anyway they look rather spectacular at the moment even if they do smell like fox wee. I think I could have done better on composition if I hadn't been standing in the middle of a roundabout with a dog barking.
Three good things:
1. Municipal planting.
2. My dining table was usable briefly - and then Rachel colonised it.
3. Art GCSE tomorrow - good to get one started.
That's really pretty.

I so wish we had a shot of you too taking this and sniffing the fox wee I guess you'd have to be there. Classic.

It's a lovely shot and wow, that is a bit exotic for a local council! Beautiful plant though.

Stunning flowers for a roundabout! Hope it's not windy, like it is here at the moment, or they won't last!

nice narrative judith and a cracking crown imperial lily .... urban roundabouts planted with bulbs / bedding plants / shrubbery are quite common in nottingham

This certainly looks very regal, even if it does smell of fox wee! Great shot.

That is rather impressive particularly for a municipal roundabout number - don't think I've ever seen one before.

First, gorgeous photo. At first I thought they were fritillaria but I wasn't confident they live in this climate. Obviously they do!

Might have known Cambridge would be up market with their round about flowers.....no common run of the mill there & these are magnificent! Well captured but would have loved to have seen you taking this in the middle of a traffic island!!!! Did you get pipped at?

Spectacular is right...these exotic lilies make quite a statement! Not sure that I've ever smelled fox wee, but I'm assuming it's rather unpleasant. Such a shame ~ these beauties should have a magnificent fragrance. :)

Fabulous flower and to think it's on a roundabout of all places! Shame about the smell for such a beautiful flower, but I've switched off the smell sensors on the computer so I can't tell!!
